Chapter 58 Meeting Huang Yuhang Again
As for a place to stay, I still have a spare room here. I’ll take you to see it later; if it suits you, you can stay there for now.”
Little Fat nodded eagerly, his face alight with excitement. “Thank you, Brother Xuan! Thank you so much!”
Yang Xuan waved his hand, inviting him inside to rest first, while he went home to wash up and prepare for sleep.
Early the next morning, Yang Xuan was roused by Little Fat’s commotion.
“Brother Xuan, I’ve prepared breakfast for you.” Little Fat had gotten up especially early just to make breakfast.
“All right, I got it.”
Yawning, Yang Xuan lazily got out of bed. It was a relief that the enchantress hadn’t bothered him for a while.
As they ate, a sudden knock came at the door.
Little Fat went to open it and found Huang Yuhang standing there.
“What are you doing here?”
He hadn’t forgotten the events that had unfolded in Huangjia Village a few days prior. Huang Yuhang’s father was certainly suspicious.
Hearing Little Fat’s words, Yang Xuan, chewing on a bun, also approached and was equally surprised to see Huang Yuhang.
“I’ve already played my part in your little drama. Why are you still looking for me?”
Huang Yuhang scratched the back of his head, a bit embarrassed.
“It’s like this, Master Lin. Aside from being my fiancée, Huang Er’ya was also my girlfriend.”
“But somehow, she suddenly died—defiled and killed.”
“I asked my father about it, but he refused to tell me anything.” Huang Yuhang’s expression darkened noticeably.
“The day I met you two masters in the village, I saw your unusual countenances and suspected you might have seen Er’ya’s ghost. I want to know what really happened.”
His eyes were reddened with sorrow.
He looked like a man of deep loyalty and affection.
Yet Yang Xuan felt that something was off—Huang Yuhang himself seemed somewhat suspicious.
Regardless, since the man sincerely asked for help, Yang Xuan decided to go along with it.
“All right. As long as you’re certain your fiancée was as you say, we’ll do our best.”
Huang Yuhang bowed gratefully. “Thank you, Master Lin.”
After eating and drinking well, Yang Xuan and Little Fat left the house, preparing to head back to Huangjia Village.
Little Fat was visibly annoyed.
“If I’d known, I wouldn’t have come back yesterday—I didn’t expect we’d have to take the train again.”
The slow green train ride took a full three hours.
Amidst the hassle, Yang Xuan suddenly sensed something amiss.
“How did you find us?”
“I snooped on my father’s chat records,” Huang Yuhang said, a little sheepishly. “I couldn’t do it openly, afraid they’d find out, so I had to come quietly on my own.”
Little Fat curled his lips. “Aren’t you afraid they’ll discover you now?”
“No, they won’t know.”
Yang Xuan frowned thoughtfully, then slowly spoke.
“Fine. Since you’ve decided, come with us tonight to Huangjia Village.”
Little Fat nodded.
Yang Xuan gave Huang Yuhang his phone number.
“You go ahead first. We’ll prepare some things and contact you when we’re ready.”
Night fell, city lights flickering on.
Yang Xuan and Little Fat circled near the village, finally choosing an ancient, dilapidated temple.
“Brother Xuan, is it here?” Little Fat looked around suspiciously, glancing at Yang Xuan.
Yang Xuan nodded.
“We’ll hide first and act according to circumstances. Someone might show up. If not, we’ll look elsewhere.”
After some observation, this place radiated the strongest sinister energy.
“All right, I’ll follow your lead,” Little Fat said, then hid in a corner, warily watching the surroundings.
As darkness deepened, Yang Xuan leaned against a tree trunk, eyes closed, listening intently to the rustling around him.
At some point, the temperature steadily dropped.
A chill crept into his heart, snapping his eyes open.
Turning his head, he saw an elderly man, about sixty years old, approaching.
The old man wore black clothes, his face pale as death. His footsteps were weak and unsteady, as if he might collapse at any moment.
Yet despite this, he slowly made his way into the temple ruins.
“Isn’t that the village chief...” Little Fat gasped, nearly shouting.
The old man’s features resembled Huang Jianren, the village head, almost identically.
“Shh! Don’t speak out of turn,” Yang Xuan quickly covered Little Fat’s mouth.
A strong sense of danger rose in his chest.
Though the man resembled Huang Jianren, there were differences—such as the black mole on his chin.
Huang Yuhang hadn’t mentioned this.
Suddenly suspicious, Yang Xuan recalled that they hadn’t informed Huang Yuhang of their visit this time.
Had Huang Yuhang tricked him into coming?
Squinting his eyes, Yang Xuan quietly waited for the old man to come closer.
The man said nothing, walked straight into the temple, then sat cross-legged.
He closed his eyes, made hand seals, and chanted incantations with reverent solemnity.
Yang Xuan raised an eyebrow—this old man knew the occult arts?
“Brother Xuan, what’s going on? What is that old man doing?” Little Fat whispered, leaning in.
“He’s casting a soul-locking curse,” Yang Xuan said grimly. There should be no souls nearby except Huang Dayi and Huang Er’ya.
And the red-clad vengeful spirit.
But the red-clad spirit had been captured by the Underworld King and was currently kept in a rented room, awaiting Yang Xuan’s handling.
Little Fat’s eyes widened. “What! A soul-locking curse?”
His voice was neither too loud nor too soft, but the old man seemed to sense it, opening his eyes and glancing toward their hiding spot, frightening Little Fat into silence.
Despite that, the old man stood and came closer to investigate.
Yang Xuan gritted his teeth and summoned the system.
“Give me two invisibility talismans.”
[Host, 2000 merit points have been deducted.]
Taking the talismans, Yang Xuan suppressed the urge to curse.
Merit points were scarce, and now, because of Little Fat’s noise, they had been discovered.
Without the invisibility talismans, they would have been exposed for sure.
“Little Fat, stay put and don’t move.”
After saying this, Yang Xuan handed one talisman to him.
Little Fat took it with a puzzled look. “What am I supposed to do?”
“Don’t ask. Just stay quiet,” Yang Xuan patted his shoulder. “As long as you don’t make any strange noise, we’ll be fine.”
The old man soon approached their position.
Little Fat trembled all over, but soon realized the man seemed oblivious to their presence.
After searching briefly and finding no one, the old man hurriedly left the place.
