Chapter 44: Lin Feng, You Are Done for
This was the first time Qin Meng had ever witnessed a murder scene, and she was utterly overwhelmed by the psychological shock of the horrific sight. Combined with the smell of blood lingering in the air, it was inherently sickening and nauseating.
"Ugh..."
As soon as the reality sank in, she began to retch uncontrollably, vomiting until nothing was left in her stomach except acid.
He Tiantian and Cheng Xiangyu had already witnessed such a scene once before, so they were barely able to manage, but seeing Qin Meng vomit caused them to gag and retch as well.
Lin Feng, however, forced down the urge to vomit. Unlike when he had killed Yuan Shuang previously, his mental resilience had grown considerably stronger.
Once Qin Meng finished vomiting, she glared at Lin Feng and screamed, "You're a madman! You're an absolute madman!"
"You knew very well that another cruise ship would pass by soon, and even if this one wrecked, a new one would surely appear shortly. It wouldn't be long before we were rescued, left this deserted island, and returned to the city!"
"And yet you dared to kill Young Master Wang!"
"You're courting death! You are completely courting death!"
He Tiantian chimed in, "That's right! How dare you kill Young Master Wang? Once we're rescued, the City Lord's Mansion will definitely launch an investigation. Lin Feng, you're finished!"
Cheng Xiangyu frowned, her delicate brows knitting together as she sighed, "Sigh. Lin Feng, while I also believe Wang Xingyu deserved to die, you really shouldn't have killed him. You were much too impulsive."
Deep down, she felt profoundly disappointed.
She had not expected Lin Feng to be a reckless brash man who acted without regard for consequences and completely failed to control his emotions. A man like that was unworthy of being with her. Even though she had grown quite fond of Lin Feng by now, she would force herself to let go of her feelings.
Yet Lin Feng looked out at the ocean with absolute calmness and said, "I hope that after you look at the situation ahead, you'll still believe we can leave this deserted island anytime soon."
Upon hearing this, He Tiantian let out a sarcastic chuckle. "Heh, what's wrong with the ocean ahead?"
"Lin Feng, you surely don't think..."
Before she could finish her sentence, she froze completely, unable to utter another word.
Curious after hearing Lin Feng's remark, but plagued by poor eyesight and the great distance, Qin Meng couldn't see clearly. Seeing He Tiantian's reaction only heightened her curiosity. She quickly formed a loose fist and peered through the narrow gap between her fingers, looking out toward the sea.
As for Cheng Xiangyu, the moment Lin Feng finished speaking, she had cast her gaze toward the ocean.
She saw the waves continuously sweeping those who had not died directly from the cruise ship accident further and further away.
The spot where the cruise ship had struck the reef and met its disaster was less than a nautical mile away from the shore of the deserted island.
This distance was something most people who knew how to swim could cover in just half an hour, yet because of the ocean currents, it remained stubbornly difficult to approach the island.
However, that was not the most terrifying part.
The most terrifying thing was that around the wreckage of the cruise ship, numerous fins cutting through the surface of the water were moving rapidly.
Sharks were feeding on those people!
"Sharks I can understand, but what is going on with those waves? I simply cannot comprehend it. Still, I finally understand why there is practically no human trash washed ashore on this deserted island."
With that, Cheng Xiangyu turned her head to look at Lin Feng. She assumed he could clear up the confusion in her heart, seeing as he had noticed this phenomenon long before she did.
Instead, Lin Feng shook his head. "Nature is too wondrous. I am completely at a loss when it comes to this phenomenon as well."
"Just like right before our cruise ship wrecked earlier, it plowed toward us at full speed without slowing down at all, as if it couldn't see this island in the slightest."
"You have to remember, our own cruise ship met its disaster in broad daylight."
"I recall that our ship suddenly struck a reef and crashed without ever seeming to spot this island either."
Listening to this, Cheng Xiangyu frowned and shook her head repeatedly, desperately hoping that Lin Feng had simply remembered incorrectly. Otherwise, it was all far too bizarre.
Most importantly, it meant they were likely trapped on this deserted island for the rest of their lives, utterly unable to ever escape.
It was a despairing realization, almost too agonizing to accept.
Yet, when she closed her eyes and earnestly tried to recall the moments before their own cruise ship wrecked, she discovered it was precisely as Lin Feng had described.
Thud!
Overwhelmed by an even deeper sense of collapse, she slumped heavily to the ground.
He Tiantian had also noticed the eerie ocean currents. Combined with the conversation between Lin Feng and Cheng Xiangyu, along with the absence of lighthouses and seaside litter on the island, she too realized they might be trapped on this deserted island forever.
She couldn't help shaking her head frantically. "No, no, no..."
Meanwhile, after observing the situation at sea, Qin Meng came to the same realization. Unable to stomach the truth, she stood frozen with a vacant, lifeless stare, as though her soul had been ripped right out of her body.
After a moment, Cheng Xiangyu pulled herself together and asked, "So, Lin Feng, was this the reason you so decisively killed Wang Xingyu?"
At the same time, a wave of admiration washed over her at how calm Lin Feng was.
He had managed to spot a series of bizarre phenomena the very moment the ship crashed today, realizing right away that their chances of rescue and escape from the island were slim to none, which was why he had no fear of killing Wang Xingyu, the son of the City Lord of Hecheng.
Earlier, she had mistaken him for an emotionally unstable hothead.
Now, she understood just how steady his emotions truly were; unless pushed to the absolute brink like Wang Xingyu had done, he remained remarkably composed.
And it made sense—how could someone unable to control their emotions manage to slay a fierce leopard?
Her perspective on Lin Feng shifted once more, growing deeper in affection and filled with mounting reverence.
He Tiantian, however, spoke up at that moment: "So this is why you killed Wang Xingyu, Lin Feng!"
"But you seem to have forgotten something. The four of us were washed ashore by the sea and survived."
"The people on today's cruise ship might meet the same fate."
"Aren't you afraid that their phones might not be broken, and that they can still send out distress signals to the outside world?"
Qin Meng quickly echoed, "Exactly, Lin Feng! With this cruise ship and our own, that makes two vessels suffering accidents in the exact same spot."
"It's bound to attract the authorities' utmost attention. It won't be long before they send people out to investigate and search!"
"Even if the ships wrecking right here is strange, they can still search using aircraft!"
"So even if the phones are broken and we can't contact the outside world, we'll still be rescued before long."
Hearing this, Lin Feng was momentarily left speechless.
Yet deep down, a persistent instinct told him that even if the authorities dispatched search planes, it would be utterly useless.
Ever since a few months ago, when he had coincidentally met Qin Meng and persuaded her to become his girlfriend, he had constantly found himself worrying that she might meet with disaster at sea. Because of that, he had always paid close attention to news regarding shipwrecks.
What he had discovered was that the world was full of bizarre maritime catastrophes.
And the shipwreck they themselves had endured was riddled with bizarre anomalies.
Still, only time would tell what the ultimate outcome would be.
At that moment, Cheng Xiangyu suddenly spoke up: "Wang Xingyu tried to force himself upon me, and my frantic resistance was useless. The injury on my leg was also caused by Wang Xingyu, and if not for Lin Feng stepping in just in time to rescue me..."
"He wasn't committing murder!"
"He was acting righteously to help someone in need!"
"If by some miracle we are rescued and return, and the City Lord's Mansion investigates and finds out Lin Feng killed Wang Xingyu, I will personally stand as a witness for him!"
