“Hey, no need to support me. This old man’s illness is already cured,” Elder Qin declared robustly, shaking off Mrs. Song’s arm.

“Father, don’t be stubborn. Let Doctor An examine you quickly!” Mrs. Song ignored Elder Qin’s protests and firmly pressed him onto the bed.

“Elder, please extend your hand so I can examine you,” Doctor An said, his expression turning serious when he saw the once frail Elder Qin now full of life.

Elder Qin sighed in resignation and stretched out his hand for the examination.

“Doctor An, is my grandfather really alright? Could it have been a brief recovery before the end?” Qin Shujun asked anxiously after noticing the doctor’s grim expression.

“Don’t talk nonsense, you little brat! If you can’t speak properly, just shut up,” Mrs. Song snapped, her brows twitching as she shot a sharp glance at her daughter.

Realizing her mistake, Qin Shujun lowered her head and fell silent.

“Doctor An, please be honest with us, so we can be at ease,” Mrs. Song said, glaring again at Qin Shujun before turning to the doctor.

“This is truly remarkable! Elder Qin’s illness has actually been cured!” Doctor An said in astonishment.

“Cured? That’s impossible!” Qin Shaotian’s eyes nearly popped out, and his voice shot up eight tones, startling those around him.

“Brother, why are you yelling? Isn’t it a good thing that grandfather has recovered?” Qin Shujun said with a strange look in her eyes.

“Well... of course it’s good news. I’m just too excited. Grandfather was so seriously ill just now, and now he’s completely recovered. It honestly took me by surprise,” Qin Shaotian quickly explained, realizing he overreacted.

“Yes, Doctor An, are you sure you didn’t make a mistake? How could someone get better so quickly?” Mrs. Song asked, sensing something odd and eager for the doctor’s explanation.

“Not completely cured yet, but the root of the illness has been removed. With a few more prescriptions to nourish and recuperate, full recovery is within reach,” Doctor An explained.

Despite his words, the group found it hard to believe, as Elder Qin’s condition had seemed terminal to them...

Unable to comprehend, they all turned to Elder Qin with questioning looks.

“What are you all staring at? It was Xuan’er who cured me,” Elder Qin said bluntly when he noticed their gazes.

“Ha ha ha, Grandpa, stop joking. With Shen Xuan’s character, shouldn’t you ask him first whether he even knows the acupuncture points?” Qin Shujun burst into laughter, breaking the silence.

“Girl, do you think grandpa would lie to you?” The old man scowled, annoyed at his granddaughter’s disbelief.

“Alright, alright, it was Shen Xuan who cured you. Happy now?” Qin Shujun said, though her expression remained disdainful.

“Father! I know you dote on Xuan’er, but you can’t lie for him. Don’t you remember what kind of person he was before? How could he suddenly become a healer after all these years?” Even Mrs. Song, rarely siding with Qin Shujun, sighed helplessly and spoke to Elder Qin.

“Hmph! Even my daughter-in-law doesn’t believe me? Everything I say is true!” Elder Qin insisted stubbornly.

“I think Shen Xuan must have deliberately flattered grandpa to get such praise,” Qin Shujun accused maliciously.

“Shujun, Xuan’er isn’t that kind of child,” Mrs. Song frowned. To her, this was just Elder Qin acting on his own accord and had nothing to do with Shen Xuan.

“I think it’s almost certain. Mother, grandpa’s losing his mind, and you’re following suit? Don’t you see what kind of person Shen Xuan really is?” Qin Shujun retorted sharply.

“Xuan’er isn’t like that at all. He doesn’t seek anything from us. Grandpa wanted to hand over his entire restaurant to Xuan’er, but he refused. And my illness — it really was him who cured it,” Elder Qin blurted out, growing frustrated as he struggled to make them understand, even revealing the plan to gift Shen Xuan the restaurant.

“What?” The three of them exclaimed in unison.

“Grandpa, how can you just give away our family business to an outsider?” Qin Shujun protested.

“What nonsense! He’s your brother of over ten years. How can he be an outsider?” Elder Qin glared, clearly annoyed.

“I don’t care. Our family business must not be given away,” Shujun insisted.

“And I don’t believe he would refuse the restaurant if you gave it to him. You’re probably just trying to make him look good!”

“Besides, who knows about his medical skills? Maybe it was Doctor An who cured you, and Shen Xuan was just playing a trick,” she added.

Though frightened by Elder Qin’s stern expression, Qin Shujun refused to relent. She simply didn’t believe Shen Xuan had such character.

Without waiting for a response, she turned and stormed out in a huff.

“This child has no manners, just leaves like that. Father, please forgive her. Since you’re well now, rest up. I’ll be leaving first,” Mrs. Song said with a forced smile to Elder Qin.

“I’m going to see my sister,” Qin Shaotian said, bowing to the two before leaving.

But as soon as he stepped outside, he didn’t go after Qin Shujun. Instead, his face darkened as he headed to his own quarters.

“Sigh, what kind of grandchildren are these?” Elder Qin sighed, staring at the now quiet room.

He had hoped to ease the tension between Shen Xuan and the Qin family, but how had it come to this?

“Elder, was it really Shen Xuan who cured you?” Doctor An asked quietly.

“Of course! Don’t you believe me?” Elder Qin asked again.

“I do believe you. I’m well acquainted with your condition. And within that short time, aside from young Shen, you haven’t been alone with anyone else. So even if it sounds unbelievable, I have no choice but to trust it,” Doctor An explained.

“Haha, Doctor An, you truly understand. In that case, please come with me so we can explain everything to them,” Elder Qin said, trying to grab Doctor An as he prepared to leave.

“Elder, please don’t rush. Even if we go now, they’ll just think I was persuaded by you to lie alongside you,” Doctor An quickly stopped him, urging patience.

“Oh dear, what should we do? Should we just let Xuan’er be wronged forever?” Elder Qin said dejectedly.

“Here’s what I suggest: this matter is indeed strange. I will report it to His Majesty. If Shen really has such skills, His Majesty, with his wisdom, will surely invite Shen into the Imperial Medical Bureau. If he passes the evaluation, the truth will be clear for all to see,” Doctor An finally revealed his true intention.

A young prodigy healer like this was not just rare—it was unprecedented. To not recruit such a talent into the Imperial Medical Bureau would be a great loss.
