Volume One, Chapter 50: The Confused Father in Period Novels, Part 13
Shi Yan and Fu Juan carried their things straight to the kitchen. Inside, Yu Guihua was frying small dried fish, with a bowl of freshly cooked meatballs resting on the stove.
Taling had long witnessed her extraordinary skills, yet it still felt that it had vastly underestimated Su Yunliang.
Just as she was about to turn away, deflated and ready to sleep, a strong arm wrapped around her, and her back was suddenly warmed by his embrace. The steady, soft breaths at her neck carried a faint scent of aftershave, making her wonder if he was truly awake.
These symbiotic creatures not only benefited humans but were treasures to these venomous snakes. Having painstakingly nurtured so many symbiotic beings, how could they willingly give them away?
Unfortunately, that wretched Su Yunliang had gone into hiding; otherwise, with Su Yunliang’s blood, why would she succumb to despair?
“You child, I told you to call me Auntie. How can you be so distant?” Xu Mei said, raising her hand toward Xiang Lan’s face, her nails painted a soft color.
With the joyous news that Nian Mingkang had a precious son, Li Qianxun naturally came to offer congratulations. Yet Li Qianxun’s arrival was unwelcome; at least, the servants who once lived in Nian Mingkang’s household grew especially fearful the moment they saw her.
Qi Lu understood perfectly. Her own willfulness had undoubtedly brought troubles to Jiang Yu. Still, she saw no fault in herself.
Yet Tang Dongcheng seemed accustomed to being shouted at and taunted by Tang Zhazha, showing little emotion—after all, his own state was hardly any better.
Perhaps because the guards had all left outside, when Su Yunliang and Shen Qinghong sneaked in, no one stopped them.
This time, Nie Lingzhuo was quite confident, utterly disbelieving the seven or eight men Nian Chuchen had mentioned. With her foul temper, which man could possibly endure her?
Wei Songyi stepped out of the cave. The entire mountain range was engulfed in darkness, and the forest before her had been leveled by battle, the stench of blood lingering heavily in the air.
Ling Baolu nodded. She knew that stepping onto this stage required backing, but that didn’t guarantee success. This was a matter of national dignity, so Ling Baolu resolved to push herself harder.
After a long moment of contemplation and several drinks, her tolerance for alcohol had improved. Finishing that pot wouldn’t be a big deal.
“Where are we going?” Lin Xu asked, puzzled, sitting in the taxi beside Leng Bingxin. He noticed her serious expression, as if weighed down by heavy worries.
Someone was shouting. At the moment of death, he seemed to catch a glimpse of his family and friends—the beautiful scene shattered instantly. Life fading, he collapsed to the ground, tears slipping from eyes that gazed at the vast sky.
One must understand, the aura emanating from Xiao Yao was hardly that of an A-rank. Yet the white crane before him was truly an A-rank monster. In their confrontation, Xiao Yao emerged unscathed, his clothes untouched; the white crane’s fate was utter devastation.
But now was different. This young man named A Xiang was not bad at all. After all, Ling Xi had said he was the first to leap from the high bridge after seeing Shen Weilai cut the rope.
Jiang Feifei also watched helplessly, for she had no good solution to this predicament.
Proudly leaving A Yan’s room, she hadn’t gone far before she saw Qi Tiancheng.
“The tenth floor of the Ghost Lock Tower!” Feng Yuqing’s eyes flashed with delight, and without hesitation, he spoke aloud.
