Chapter Fourteen: The Secret of the Confidential Matter

Bei Mo held the letter that contained only the words "The game has just begun," his thin lips pressed tightly into a straight line. James, that old fox, truly wouldn’t shed tears until seeing the coffin.
Meanwhile, although Duan Fei had temporarily cleared the suspicion of leaking core technology, she knew in her heart this was only the first step. The real mastermind behind the scenes was still at large, and she had to uncover them as soon as possible to completely rid herself of this false accusation.
In the company, strange eyes pierced Duan Fei like needles. Whispered gossip and pointed fingers made her feel as if she had thorns on her back. Some said she had just gotten lucky; others claimed she was scheming and deliberately putting on an act.
Duan Fei paid no heed to these rumors. Now, her only focus was to find out exactly who had stabbed her in the back. She began quietly collecting clues, secretly observing the behavior of every colleague, especially those who had once shown hostility toward her. The office computers, printers, and file cabinets became her focal points.
“Duan Fei, Investigator Chen is asking for you again,” a colleague whispered, his tone tinged with schadenfreude.
Duan Fei sneered inwardly. It seemed Investigator Chen Feng really wouldn’t give up until the bitter end. She was eager to see what tricks he would play next.
In the investigation room, Chen Feng stared at Duan Fei with a serious expression. “Miss Duan, although Carlos's testimony is in your favor, it doesn’t completely eliminate your suspicion.”
“Investigator Chen, I’ve explained this many times already. I have not leaked any secrets,” Duan Fei replied calmly, though a trace of impatience flickered in her eyes. “If you have concrete evidence, present it directly. Otherwise, don’t waste my time.”
“Miss Duan, I hope you cooperate with our investigation,” Chen Feng said firmly. “Some matters are better confessed honestly.”
“Cooperate? I’ve cooperated enough!” Duan Fei suddenly stood up, her tone icy. “I’ll say it again: I did not leak any secrets! If you keep making unreasonable accusations, I will consider taking legal action!”
“Miss Duan, are you threatening me?” Chen Feng narrowed his eyes, his voice laced with menace.
Duan Fei scoffed and turned to leave the room. At the door, she suddenly stopped, glanced back coldly at Chen Feng, and said, “A word of advice: instead of wasting time on me, you’d better thoroughly investigate the real leaker.”
Back at her desk, Duan Fei took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. She knew this battle had only just begun. She opened her computer, her fingers flying over the keyboard, and a hidden folder appeared on the screen…
“Found it!” Duan Fei whispered, a cold smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
At that moment, the office door was pushed open. Sun Xiao entered, a strange smile playing on her face…

Sun Xiao swayed her hips as she approached Duan Fei’s desk, feigning concern. “Feifei, are you okay? I heard the investigator called you in again. Everything alright?” Her tone was filled with false sympathy, though secretly she reveled in Duan Fei’s misfortune.
Colleagues nearby perked up their ears, eager to watch a show unfold.
Duan Fei glanced coldly at her but said nothing, returning to her work.
“Oh, come on, why did you have to mess with those core technologies? Now you’re stuck. Jumping into the Yellow River won’t wash you clean,” Sun Xiao sneered. “But I guess some people will do anything to climb up.”
Duan Fei’s fingers paused briefly, but she ignored her, her gaze growing even colder.
The whispers around her grew louder, like a swarm of buzzing flies, disturbing her peace of mind. She took a deep breath, struggling to control her emotions.
Now was not the time to tear the mask off just yet; she needed more evidence.
Suddenly, a message popped up on her computer screen from Lin Yue: “Feifei, I found something. Come quickly.”
Duan Fei’s heart lifted. She immediately left her office.
She arrived at Lin Yue’s office, where Lin Yue handed her a file. “Take a look at this.”
Duan Fei quickly scanned the documents, her expression immediately hardening.
The file contained email exchanges between Sun Xiao and an external competitor, clearly documenting how Sun Xiao leaked company secrets and framed Duan Fei.
“This… is real?” Duan Fei’s voice trembled slightly. She couldn’t believe that Sun Xiao, who always appeared weak and harmless, could do such a thing.
“It’s absolutely true. I’m a hacker expert; this small matter is nothing to me,” Lin Yue said confidently. “Now, let’s see what she can say!”
Clutching the file tightly, Duan Fei felt a surge of indescribable excitement. Finally, she could prove her innocence!
She immediately took the evidence to Chen Feng and laid everything out before him.
Chen Feng’s face darkened after reviewing the proof. He didn’t expect to be played by Sun Xiao so thoroughly.
Summoned to the investigation room, Sun Xiao’s face turned pale upon seeing the irrefutable evidence. Though she tried to argue, she eventually lowered her head and confessed.
With the truth revealed, Duan Fei became the company’s hero. Colleagues apologized, and the previous rumors vanished like smoke.
Standing by the office window, gazing out at the bustling city, Duan Fei’s heart swelled with the joy of victory.
At that moment, her phone rang—it was Bei Mo.
Hesitating briefly, Duan Fei finally answered.
“Duan Fei…” Bei Mo’s voice was low and hoarse. “Let’s talk.”

Duan Fei gripped the evidence in her hand, her emotions a tangled mix.
She recalled Bei Mo’s earlier distrust toward her. Though still a bit angry, she hoped he could now see her innocence.
Her eyes drifted toward Bei Mo’s office, filled with a complex hope.
Around her, colleagues busied themselves, but she was lost in thought.
She didn’t immediately hand the evidence to the company’s upper management. Instead, she sought out Sun Xiao, offering her a chance to confess.
Sun Xiao’s face bore a strange smile when Duan Fei entered her workspace, but it soon gave way to nervousness.
“Sun Xiao, come with me,” Duan Fei said calmly but firmly.
Sun Xiao tensed but feigned composure as she followed Duan Fei into a quiet meeting room.
“What’s this about, Feifei?” Sun Xiao forced a smile, though her eyes betrayed panic.
Without a word, Duan Fei produced the evidence from her bag and placed it before Sun Xiao. “Take a look. These are your emails with the external competitor, clearly documenting how you leaked company secrets and framed me.”
Sun Xiao’s face instantly drained of color. Trembling, she picked up the file, her eyes glued to every word, as if refusing to believe what she saw.
“How… how did you get these?” Sun Xiao’s voice quivered, her eyes wide with fear.
“I have my ways,” Duan Fei sneered. “You still have a chance to confess. Admit your crimes truthfully, and maybe you’ll receive leniency.”
Cold sweat beaded Sun Xiao’s forehead. She wanted to argue but ultimately bowed her head in defeat. “I… I was wrong. I will confess.”
Duan Fei nodded and turned to leave the room.
She planned to expose Sun Xiao’s conspiracy at the company’s next assembly so everyone would know the truth.
She didn’t know whether Bei Mo would believe her, nor how this would affect their relationship, but at this moment, her decision was firm.
Taking a steady breath, she picked up her phone and called Bei Mo back. “Bei Mo, let’s talk.”
From the other end came Bei Mo’s deep voice: “Alright, I’ll wait for you in my office.”
Duan Fei inhaled deeply, her resolve unwavering as she walked toward Bei Mo’s office.
At the company assembly, everyone awaited her speech. Holding the evidence firmly, Duan Fei stepped onto the stage, the atmosphere around her seeming to freeze in anticipation.
