Outside the Hunters’ internal hospital, Lin Tian stood absentmindedly with a cigarette between his lips, while Wang Feng seemed deep in thought as well.

“He has no supernatural abilities at all, his attribute data is abysmal, and the only thing impressive is his demon power, which is terrifyingly strong. What do you make of it?” Wang Feng asked.

“What else is there to make of it?” Lin Tian said with a self-mocking laugh. “Those figures are practically identical to those guys’. This data… he’s a monster, plain and simple.”

Wang Feng let out a deep sigh. Indeed, those were not the figures of a normal person—not even of a human being.

“What did the people above say?” Lin Tian suddenly turned to him.

“Continue.”

“Then what’s the problem? Let’s continue.” Lin Tian shrugged indifferently. “Don’t ask me. You should have known my answer long ago. Doctor Ling Yun will not fail, and Xiao Yang is absolutely human!”

Ye Yang spent the next seven days in that miserable hospital room. From time to time, Lin Tian would come by and chat nonsense with him. Qi Fang occasionally dropped in to steal a few of his oranges, while Zhou Yue came once with the little darling from her family, bringing plenty of fruit and nutritional supplements.

Of course, Qi Fang promptly stole those back as well. According to that girl, Ye Yang was her slave and bodyguard, so whatever belonged to him belonged to her. Naturally, whatever belonged to her still belonged to her alone. And so… sigh.

Ever since the incident in which someone had smoked in bed and burned the sheets, even the pretty nurses had stopped treating him kindly. Lin Tian teased him about it for quite some time, without once considering who the real culprit had been.

“The matter of your house has been arranged. We couldn’t find a suitable seller, so for now I rented you an apartment nearby. There’s no rush, though. You can stay at my place for a while. Whenever you want to enjoy some private time with your little sweetheart, you can move out,” Lin Tian said with a shameless grin.

“Uh… I think I’ll pass. If you don’t mind the inconvenience, I’ll stay at your place for a few more days.” Ye Yang wiped away his sweat. Private time with Qi Fang? Absolutely not. That girl’s destructive power was enough to make him vomit three pints of blood every day.

“Don’t worry about the rent. I paid two years in advance. Big Thunder King and I split the cost fifty-fifty. I also bought all the furniture you were missing.”

“This… thank you. Really.” Ye Yang’s eyes reddened with emotion. Lin Tian was one thing, but he had never imagined that Wang Feng would help pay his rent and furnish his apartment.

“Ha, don’t mention it. Actually, he…” Lin Tian smiled, though a trace of remembrance flickered in his eyes. “You’ll understand someday. He owes your father his life.”

“As I thought… it was because of Dad.” Ye Yang nodded and sighed inwardly. It was good to have people value him, of course, but he truly wished that, when they did, it was because his name was Ye Yang—not because he was Doctor Ling Yun’s son.

At last, Ye Yang was discharged. He did not even return to Lin Tian’s home, let alone go see the so-called new apartment. Carrying the certification papers Lin Tian had given him, he went straight to the Hunters’ teaching building. He could not afford to waste another second.

Wang Feng had been right: he was only barely qualified. If he wanted to become a Hunter, he would have to work several times harder than everyone else. Besides, he had already gotten a very late start.

The Hunters’ Academy teaching building was utterly different from an ordinary school. There were hardly any classrooms inside. Instead, there were rooms filled with strange instruments, along with several gyms for physical training.

The building had only three floors, though it covered a large area. In truth, only three rooms served as classrooms: Class A on the first floor, Class B on the second, and Class C—where Ye Yang had been assigned—on the top floor.

“Excuse me… is this Class C?” Ye Yang asked as politely as he could.

There were not many people in the classroom, perhaps a dozen. One girl was eating breakfast, another was putting on makeup, while four others chatted among themselves.

“Yes. Why?” asked a beautiful girl of seventeen or eighteen, looking up at him.

“Excuse me, where do I register? I’m here to enroll.” Ye Yang narrowed his eyes in a smile. What good luck—he had encountered so many girls the moment he arrived. Fortunately, he had shaved his stubble in the hospital before coming out.

“Enroll?” The girl froze, then tilted her head and looked him over. “You mean you’re here to enroll in Class C?”

“Uh…” Ye Yang nodded and held up the certification paper, prominently displaying the enormous letter C. “Yes. Is there a problem?”

With a sudden commotion, the classroom erupted. In an instant, seven or eight girls rushed toward Ye Yang, startling him badly.

What was going on? Had he done something wrong?

His grip loosened, and the certification paper was snatched away. The girl who took it only glanced at it once before crying out, “Huh? He really is in our class! How is that possible?”

“Huh? You?” a familiar voice suddenly rang out.

Ye Yang froze. Gao Ting? The same Gao Ting he had met at the Wanderers’ Camp? She was in Class C too? So she really was still only a student.

“Yes, it’s me. What’s wrong? Is there something wrong with the certification papers?” Ye Yang asked, frowning.

Gao Ting examined the document, shook her head, then looked at Ye Yang again. Suddenly, as though she had remembered something, she frowned and said, “Pulling strings is wrong. Even if your father is Doctor Ling Yun, using connections like this is a little despicable, don’t you think?”

“What? Pulling strings? I passed the test!” Ye Yang was completely dumbfounded. What did she mean by pulling strings? How was it despicable? His results in the first several tests had been atrocious, but Wang Feng had said that his demon power had qualified him. He had been admitted as an exception because his score was actually quite high.

“I’m talking about Class C!” Gao Ting’s expression grew even colder.

“Oh… so this is an elite class? Only students with good grades can get in?” Ye Yang finally understood. No wonder Lin Tian had said he would have to treat him to a meal. So he really had helped him after all.

“Do you genuinely not understand, or are you simply stupid?” asked a short girl with a sweet, endearingly innocent face.

She pointed at the tip of her nose. “Look at me. Am I male or female?”

“Female, of course. Why?” Ye Yang asked blankly.

“And her?”

“Female.”

“And her?”

“Female…”

“And you?”

“I…” Ye Yang stopped dead.

In that instant, he understood. Cold sweat poured down his face. He was filled with regret and fury. Why had he not noticed it earlier? What the hell had Lin Tian done?

This was obviously a girls’ class. The Hunters’ Academy actually divided students by gender!

And Lin Tian had pulled strings to send him into a class made up entirely of girls?

All right, that part was actually rather wonderful. But… it was humiliating beyond words.

Seeing the girls around him whispering and snickering, Ye Yang felt like killing himself. He snatched back the certification papers, muttered an apology, and fled.

He was going to deal with Lin Tian. He was going to make sure that man died without a burial place!

“What is the meaning of this?”

The table shook loudly as Ye Yang slammed his hand against it and roared. He had completely ignored the crowd gathering behind him.

“Huh? You went to register? Ha-ha! How was it? Was Uncle Lin considerate enough in arranging everything for you? Tsk, tsk, even I’m envious of all those adorable girls. And there are so many of them for you to choose from. Ah, if it weren’t for your father…”

Lin Tian had reached a level of shamelessness that defied description, while Ye Yang’s anger soared to its peak.

“No! Absolutely not! Uncle Lin, how am I supposed to study in a place like that? I’ve lost all my dignity! Do you know how those girls look at me? They think I’m some playboy who got in through his father’s connections!”

Ye Yang was practically in tears, and he had nearly smashed the table to pieces.

After half an hour of explanations, persuasion, and even outright cursing, Lin Tian finally realized that he had made a tremendous mistake. He eventually apologized, though Ye Yang felt there was not the slightest trace of remorse in him.

“All right, all right, I’m sorry, okay? Uncle Lin only did it for your own good. You’re all alone now, so having a few girls around to warm your bed wouldn’t hurt. You do have a little sweetheart, but that girl is rather strange. I doubt she’s even let you touch her…”

“Enough nonsense! Help me transfer out first. Class A, Class B—I don’t care where!” Ye Yang ground his teeth. He had come to become a Hunter and learn real skills. What did he need girls to warm his bed for?

“It’s too late.” Lin Tian rolled his eyes. “While you were unconscious, the class assignments were finalized. Everything has already been filed and recorded. As for changing classes, I can’t help you. Go find Big Thunder King yourself.”

Grinding his teeth, Ye Yang went to look for Wang Feng. He hated Lin Tian to the point of madness, but after leaving Wang Feng’s office, he wanted to kill that man even more.

“What do you think this is, a game? You want to change classes? I don’t care whether Lin Tian chose it or you did. Don’t bring every trivial matter to me. Once something has been filed and recorded, it is final. There is no changing it! Can’t students in Class C become Hunters? Stop worrying about useless nonsense. Embarrassed? Your test scores are even more embarrassing. Don’t want to go? Then drop out!”

Ye Yang finally understood how frightening Big Thunder King could be. He was practically a living cannon. Before Ye Yang could even finish explaining himself, Wang Feng had unleashed a furious tirade, without caring whether any of it made sense.

“Get out! I’m extremely busy. Deal with this little matter yourself! A man in a girls’ class is embarrassing? Then go have a sex change!”

After leaving Big Thunder King’s office, Ye Yang tilted his head back and stared at the sky with a long sigh. The heavens seemed so gloomy. He was not crying, but tears nevertheless slid down his face of their own accord.

From now on, life at the Hunters’ Academy was going to be… unbearably miserable.

When he returned to the third floor, Ye Yang could barely lift his head. The thought that he would even be sharing a dormitory with these girls in the future made matters worse.

In truth, he was perhaps one-tenth pleased about it. But the moment he saw the disdainful looks in the girls’ eyes, he felt so miserable that he could not even produce tears.

Fortunately, Lin Tian still possessed a shred of conscience. He sent up a familiar teacher to smooth things over for Ye Yang. The teacher explained that Headquarters had made a mistake with the class assignments, but the records had already been backed up and could not be changed. He also exaggerated the story of Ye Yang going to see Wang Feng.

But everyone understood what that meant.

“Oh…” The girls suddenly realized the truth. Their expressions softened considerably, and several even began to feel sorry for him. Everyone knew Big Thunder King’s temper. He would never bother with such a trivial matter as changing a class. Since the mistake had already been made, Ye Yang could only live with it.

“I’m sorry. I thought you had gotten in through connections. I thought you…” Gao Ting quietly apologized.

Ye Yang waved his hands again and again. He really had gotten in through connections. It was simply that he himself had not known what those connections had accomplished.

“It’s not such a big deal. Just make do with it. We’re all going to be Hunters in the end anyway.” The girl who had accused Ye Yang earlier smiled. “Besides, now that there’s a boy in the class, this bunch of female beasts should be delighted. And he’s even a handsome young fellow!”

Her words sent the entire class into an uproar of laughter. Several girls immediately crowded around Ye Yang, bombarding him with questions.

The only boy in a girls’ class—well, he might not be as rare as a panda, but he was still a national treasure of sorts.

“How old are you, handsome? What’s your name? Is your father Doctor Ling Yun?”

“Uh… yes. My name is Ye Yang. And, well, I haven’t been a handsome young man for many years.”

Ye Yang ground his teeth. Being surrounded by a group of girls was tremendously stressful.

When Ye Yang revealed his age, not a single girl in the class failed to look astonished. Ninety-nine percent of them wore the same expression Qi Fang had shown back then.

What a pity. This handsome young man was already a middle-aged man in his forties? Had he been frozen for twenty years? How bizarre.

“By the way, how high was your demon power in the final test? I saw the results of your earlier tests. You didn’t pass a single one, so how did you get admitted?” Gao Ting asked, narrowing her eyes.

Although she was merely stating the facts, her bluntness left Ye Yang awkward for quite some time. He wanted to say that his score in the final test had been excellent—that was what Wang Feng had told him—but he did not know the exact number. He had asked Wang Feng, but Wang Feng had refused to answer.

“Hmm… You failed all the earlier tests? Then your demon power must be at least three hundred, right? Did you just arrive in Yanjing? Did you only recently plant the seed? Tsk, tsk, how impressive. To possess such powerful demon energy immediately after planting it…”

The girl’s face was full of admiration. The others nodded repeatedly. If his demon power really was three hundred, then he had clearly already reached Level Two.

Ye Yang, however, was bewildered. He tilted his head and asked, “Seed? What seed?”

“The evolution-cell seed. You don’t know? Oh… so you still haven’t learned about any of that.” The girl giggled. “When everyone first arrives, how many of us actually know what any of this means?”

Ye Yang fell silent.

What was an evolution-cell seed? Did it have to be planted? When had he ever planted one? Since arriving in Yanjing, the only thing he had done—apart from having an X-ray—was drink with Lin Tian.
