Chapter 30: The Armory

Seeing Han Qian’s coquettish expression, Ye Nan couldn’t help but laugh and ask, “So, how am I? Am I impressive?”
“Definitely impressive,” Han Qian’s cheeks flushed pink, completely won over by Ye Nan.
“How do I compare to Huang Youzhi?” Ye Nan continued.
Han Qian curled her lips, a hint of disdain flashing in her eyes. “That weakling? No contest.”
Ye Nan said, “Quick, get dressed. Let’s go have hotpot together.”
Han Qian’s face lit up with joy. She was already very hungry, and after their intense duel with Ye Nan, she was utterly exhausted. Now, all she wanted was a good meal and a peaceful sleep.
Passing by Huang Youzhi, Han Qian didn’t even glance his way. Her cold indifference made his heart plummet into an abyss.
“Qianqian, please untie the ropes on me,” Huang Youzhi suppressed his anger and begged, “I’m your boyfriend; isn’t this a small favor?”
Han Qian ignored him completely.
Seeing her expression, Huang Youzhi’s defenses shattered utterly. He had overheard their loud noises for an hour right there, completely disregarded his presence outside.
Already furious and resolute to break up with her over this, Han Qian’s icy detachment pushed him over the edge, and he exploded in rage.
“Han Qian, you little bitch! I thought you were this pure goddess who’d only be with me for life. But you? One hotpot meal and you’re done for. You knew I was outside, yet you screamed so loud. Do you even respect me as your boyfriend?” Huang Youzhi glared at her, his face twisted with fury as if he wanted to devour her whole.
Han Qian was unfazed and retorted, “You’re useless—afraid of zombies to the point you won’t gather supplies, leaving me starving. So I abandoned you for a stronger man. Isn’t that obvious? You used to mock Ye Nan, acting all high and mighty, but now, you’re just a cuckold and a loser.”
Tears welled in Huang Youzhi’s eyes, overwhelmed by frustration. “You bitch, you won’t die well.”
“Say whatever you want. I’m off to eat hotpot. You stay here and drink the air if you’re hungry, maybe that’ll fill you up,” Han Qian said with a laugh, ignoring his murderous glare as she took Ye Nan’s hand and walked away.
Ye Nan sneered, “Huang Youzhi, you’re truly pathetic.”
Inside Wu Fangfang’s room, Wu Fangfang and You Wen looked forlorn. They had waited so long the hotpot had gone cold.
Ye Nan turned on the electric stove and reheated the hotpot. “Come, don’t be shy. Help yourselves. I still have plenty of ingredients in my space. If it’s not enough, I’ll get more.”
Han Qian was thrilled. This was what a real man was like.
What was Huang Youzhi good for if he couldn’t even feed her?
As soon as the hotpot was warm, Han Qian eagerly dug in—she was starving.
The moment the abalone touched her tongue, her eyes lit up. It was exquisitely delicious—since the apocalypse began, she hadn’t tasted anything so good.
This sleep and meal were truly worth it.
She abandoned all pretense, eating heartily like a starving ghost reborn.
In the apocalypse, forget about seafood hotpot; even a simple pack of instant noodles felt like a delicacy.
After Han Qian was full, Ye Nan kept his promise and saved her plenty of food. During that hour in the room, she had been very enthusiastic, trying on all sorts of outfits—dance costumes, flight attendant uniforms, sailor suits, qipaos—maximizing Ye Nan’s experience.
These provisions were her reward.
After bidding farewell to Han Qian, Ye Nan left with Wu Fangfang and You Wen.
The journey was uneventful. When they encountered zombies, Ye Nan drove the Humvee straight through them. Even two level-1 zombies appeared midway; he plowed through them as well and extracted their crystal cores.
Unfortunately, they hadn’t come across any level-2 zombies.
Now that Ye Nan was a level-2 psychic, level-1 cores offered little improvement compared to level-2 cores.
Looks like once things settle, he would have to venture farther out to hunt level-2 zombies. If others kept leveling up while he stayed behind, he’d be in danger.
Ye Nan refused to fall behind.
Back at the repair shop, You Dehai rushed out, nearly in tears when he saw Wu Fangfang and You Wen safe and sound.
It was a blessing for a family to reunite in the apocalypse.
“Heaven bless us, heaven bless us,” You Dehai cried, holding them tightly.
Despite working sixteen-hour shifts and nearly crushed by life’s pressures, he had never cried before.
But now, he couldn’t hold back.
“Don’t cry, my love. Wen and I are here, and we’ll never be separated again—forever and ever,” Wu Fangfang comforted him, tears streaming down her face even more than his.

You Dehai looked at Wu Fangfang’s delicate face and solemnly said, “Yes, together forever, never apart again.”
Wu Fangfang said, “Thanks so much to Xiao Ye. When he came over, that bastard Liu Cundong tried to assault me. Xiao Ye killed him; otherwise, I’d have been in serious danger.”
You Dehai looked at Ye Nan sincerely. “Brother Ye, I can’t thank you enough. I’ll work overtime and do my best to finish the apocalypse vehicle as fast as possible.”
Ye Nan replied, “It’s nothing. You’ve helped me plenty before, so consider it a repayment. Good deeds are rewarded.”
After some small talk, Ye Nan got to work.
There were many vehicles and plenty of gasoline near the repair shop. Using professional tools, Ye Nan siphoned some gasoline into his space for backup.
Then he took several daggers from his space, welded them onto steel pipes, creating spears.
These were excellent for killing zombies—much better than long knives, which sometimes got stuck.
Spears were different; once stabbed into a zombie’s head, they could be easily pulled out.
“Brother You, try out this new weapon I made. What do you think?” Ye Nan handed a spear to You Dehai.
You Dehai swung it a few times, nodding. “Very handy. Brother Ye, you’re really clever. With these, killing zombies will be much easier.”
Ye Nan said, “I’ll leave three for you—all one each.”
“When I have free time, I’ll take my wife and Wen out to hunt zombies to gain experience. That way, I won’t always need to bother you,” You Dehai said.
Ye Nan smiled, “No problem. When you fight zombies, you can park two cars side by side with a narrow gap for one person in between. This way, you only face one zombie at a time, greatly reducing danger.”
You Dehai gave a thumbs-up. “Good idea.”
Ye Nan said, “Don’t rush to modify the apocalypse vehicle yet. Let’s first reinforce the repair shop’s perimeter to keep zombies out.”
“I was thinking the same,” You Dehai said.
“Great minds think alike,” Ye Nan joked.
They all laughed.
The four of them grabbed welding machines, steel pipes, iron rods, and wire, reinforcing the repair shop’s perimeter and blocking vulnerable spots with vehicles.
This made it almost impossible for zombies to break in.
Ye Nan suddenly asked, “Brother You, you mentioned before that the three who took you hostage escaped from the police station nearby, right?”
You Dehai nodded. “Yes, not far from here.”
Ye Nan said, “Alright, I’ll go take a look now. Maybe I can find some weapons.”
You Dehai knew the importance of this. If they could get sniper rifles, grenades, and the like, it would greatly boost their strength.
“Go ahead. I’ll watch here,” You Dehai said.
You Wen said, “I’ll go too.”
Ye Nan said, “Alright, I’ll take you out to see the world.”
Seeing Ye Nan agree, You Dehai didn’t try to stop him. Instead, he warned, “Be careful, don’t cause trouble for Brother Ye.”
You Wen said, “Got it.”
You Dehai added, “If he doesn’t listen, you can hit him until he does.”
You Wen’s face fell. “Dad, am I really your son?”
Wu Fangfang sighed softly, “Of course you are. Stop doubting so much. Spend time learning from Xiao Ye instead. Look at him, then look at you. Both young, yet the difference is huge.”
You Wen fell silent, tears streaming.
They left the repair shop and headed toward the nearby police station.
The journey was uneventful and soon they arrived.
Outside the police station were many zombies, some wearing police uniforms or prison clothes—clearly former officers and prisoners turned undead.
“You know, Ye Nan, there are so many zombies, probably too many for just the two of us. Maybe we should go back and plan carefully. Staying alive is the priority,” You Wen said, seeing the swarm and immediately backing down.
“No problem. Watch this,” Ye Nan gripped his lightning sword and strode forward, each strike felling a zombie.
He moved like a sharp scythe harvesting chives, cutting down zombies continuously.
Before long, all the zombies in front of him were defeated.
You Wen wiped his eyes, doubting what he just saw. Though he knew Ye Nan was a psychic with superpowers, seeing it firsthand was hard to believe.
Page 3/3
It was simply incredible.
Big brother, are you even human?
Ye Nan smiled and beckoned You Wen, “Come on, let’s go inside and take a look.”
“Okay,” You Wen nodded dumbly, feeling his worldview shaken to the core.
They searched the police station but found no survivors—only hordes of zombies.
Without hesitation, Ye Nan quickly dispatched them all.
He even left one or two for You Wen to practice on.
You Wen was bold, stabbing a spear forcefully into a zombie’s head, killing it instantly.
“Fighting zombies isn’t that hard. I can do it too,” You Wen said proudly, pulling the spear back and stabbing another zombie.
Ye Nan praised him, “You’re talented. With practice, fighting zombies will be as easy as knocking down toddlers.”
You Wen beamed, “That’s right.”
Just then, a towering zombie over two meters tall charged, claws outstretched toward You Wen.
Startled, You Wen hurried behind Ye Nan, trembling. “I take back what I said. Ye Nan, you go! Kill that big guy.”
Ye Nan raised his hand and struck with his sword!
Slice!
The level-1 zombie was cleaved in two, and Ye Nan took its crystal core.
They searched the police station for a while longer but found no survivors. However, they discovered a weapons cache.
Ye Nan blasted open the door with his lightning powers, eyes widening when he saw the contents.
You Wen was equally astonished, his eyes shining bright as if outshining electric lights.
“Damn, awesome!” You Wen exclaimed joyfully.
The cache contained many treasures: assault rifles, sniper rifles, bullets, grenades, and more. They had struck gold.
Ye Nan picked up a grenade, nearly laughing tears. “Jackpot, jackpot.”
You Wen was ecstatic. “You’re amazing. If we’d listened to me and gone back, we’d have missed this big score.”
“Let’s move all the weapons onto the car,” Ye Nan said, keeping the secret of the Lightning Tower to himself.
Though he trusted You Wen, it was safer to keep some things hidden in the apocalypse.
After much effort, they cleared the weapons cache and loaded everything onto the vehicle.
The cache had been looted when the apocalypse first broke out, but everyone was too busy fleeing to grab much.
Even the trio from the repair shop had taken only a little.
They had wanted to return for more, but the heavy zombie presence near the station made it impossible.
Thus, Ye Nan had gotten the advantage.
Back at the repair shop, You Dehai and Wu Fangfang were stunned by the sheer amount of weapons.
Thank goodness it was the apocalypse; in peaceful times, they’d be locked up for life.
You Dehai said, “Brother Ye, I heard from Wen that you killed all the zombies in the station. These weapons rightfully belong to you. Just give each of us a pistol and it’s enough.”
Ye Nan smiled generously, “No, everyone who’s here shares in it. Take whatever you can use. Protecting lives is most important—I don’t want anyone hurt before the apocalypse vehicle is finished.”
“Thank you, then,” You Dehai said gratefully.
Under Ye Nan’s insistence, You Dehai took many weapons: pistols, assault rifles, grenades, bulletproof vests, and more.
If anyone came to cause trouble at the repair shop, they’d easily handle it.
Even if the opponent was a psychic, unless their powers were extraordinary, these weapons were more than a match.
