Chapter 5: Family Banquet
Qin Feng frowned, feeling a slight sense of surprise.
The next moment, he asked, "You know me?"
Clearly, only the old man knew about his true identity; how could this person be aware of it?
Li Hongliang replied respectfully, "You might have forgotten me, sir. Three years ago, I was instructed by the National Medical Academy to lead a medical team to Egypt."
"We were caught in a sudden sandstorm, and the team was isolated with no hope of rescue. Just as we were about to succumb to the harsh elements, you stepped in and saved us."
"Ever since I learned you had joined the hospital, I have been tied up with various trivial matters and haven't had the chance to express my gratitude. I hope you can forgive me, sir."
Hearing the other party mention this, Qin Feng’s memory stirred.
He did indeed have a vague recollection.
At the time, they were in Egypt executing a mission for the old man when they stumbled upon Li Hongliang and his group, who were lost in the desert. Out of goodwill, he had intervened to save them.
He hadn't expected the man to be the hospital director. Come to think of it, although he had been here for less than a week, he had truly never seen what the director looked like.
"It was just a small effort."
Qin Feng waved his hand and said, "You may rise."
"Thank you, sir." Li Hongliang stood up.
Qin Feng’s voice sounded again: "However, regarding my identity..."
Li Hongliang felt a chill in his heart and said sternly, "Please rest assured, sir. I guarantee I won't say a word."
"That’s good." Qin Feng nodded with satisfaction, shoved his hands into his pockets, and walked away.
...
Outside the office.
Seeing Qin Feng acting as if nothing had happened, Song Yuting breathed a huge sigh of relief. She asked, "The director didn't do anything to you, did he?"
Xu Banxia was also observing Qin Feng with a strange expression.
Just moments ago, there hadn't been a single sound from inside the office, which was simply incredible.
She knew the director’s temperament well.
Hitting someone at the entrance of the hospital, regardless of the reason, would definitely result in a major disciplinary record. But looking at it now, the director didn't seem angry at all...
"Nothing happened."
Qin Feng smiled slightly and added, "I didn't expect Miss Song to be so concerned about me."
Upon hearing this, a rare blush appeared on Song Yuting’s pretty face.
She glared at Qin Feng and snorted coldly: "Don't flatter yourself. I just don't want to owe you anything. Since you're fine, I'm leaving!"
As she spoke, she took a step forward, but her legs went weak, and she nearly fell to the ground. Fortunately, Qin Feng was quick-witted and caught her in time.
This seemingly normal gesture made Xu Banxia feel quite uncomfortable.
Even though it was a doctor-patient relationship, she simply couldn't stand seeing Qin Feng and Song Yuting have too much physical contact.
It felt as if Qin Feng belonged only to her.
Even if she didn't like him, he could only belong to her.
"Miss Song has just recovered from a major illness, so you'd better be careful."
Xu Banxia said coldly. Before leaving, she didn't forget to tell Qin Feng: "Wait by my car after work. My mother wants me to bring you home for a meal."
This sentence made Song Yuting’s eyes flicker slightly.
Qin Feng, however, felt a headache coming on.
He thought to himself: With Aunt Lan’s relentless persistence, he feared it wouldn't be easy to leave tonight.
...
After seeing Song Yuting off, Qin Feng spent the rest of the day as the busiest star in the hospital.
Many colleagues were celebrating, saying his permanent position was just around the corner.
Clearly, given Song Yuting’s status and the difficulty of the treatment that had stumped the hospital’s top brass, Qin Feng’s success would definitely leave a glorious mark on his personal record.
In the blink of an eye, it was time to get off work.
Qin Feng arrived at Xu Banxia’s car. She drove a BMW, which was considered quite low-profile given her prominent family background.
From behind, Xu Banxia’s voice drifted over: "Does it feel good to enjoy the flattery and bootlicking?"
Hearing the faint sarcasm in her tone, Qin Feng replied speechlessly: "Now, Director Xu, I cured Miss Song, which is a great contribution to our department. If you’re not going to praise me, at least don't mock me—that’s going too far!"
Xu Banxia glanced at him, feeling her attitude had indeed been a bit harsh, but she showed no intention of apologizing.
She continued: "I’m just reminding you not to be too complacent. One success doesn't prove anything."
"Besides, the department will be giving you a commendation. What do you want?"
Qin Feng thought for a moment, blinked, and said: "Then please trouble yourself to ask Aunt Lan not to corner me every day. That is what I want."
"..." Xu Banxia was left speechless, then retorted huffily: "Tell her that yourself."
After saying this, not knowing where her sudden anger came from, she sat in the car and floored the accelerator.
In an instant, the car shot forward like a wild horse off its leash...
...
The Xu family estate.
Located in the eastern suburbs of Yunhai City, it was a grand compound covering a hundred acres.
When they arrived, Xu Banxia’s face was slightly pale, naturally due to the reckless driving earlier.
Looking at Qin Feng, who was as calm as ever and completely unfazed, she became even more irritated.
"Don't say anything you shouldn't when we go in later. You just need to eat."
After dropping this line, Xu Banxia stepped out of the car.
Qin Feng muttered to himself: "What is wrong with this woman?"
"She can't handle speed, yet she insists on driving like a maniac. Isn't that just asking for trouble?"
Following that, he caught up with Xu Banxia’s pace.
Entering the Xu residence, he saw small bridges, flowing water, elegant Suzhou-style gardens, and pavilions lined up in rows.
It was truly a grand scene of Jiangnan luxury.
Passing through the long corridor, they entered the main hall.
In the Chinese-style decorated hall, a rosewood round table was set with two Taishi chairs, where a middle-aged man and woman were sitting.
Qin Feng recognized the woman; she was naturally Xu Banxia’s mother, Lan Fang.
At this moment, she was wearing a cheongsam, and the exquisite body wrapped within it made one’s heart race at a single glance.
The other person, dressed in loose clothing, was none other than the head of the Xu family, Xu Jingnian.
Besides them, there were two unfamiliar faces whom Qin Feng did not recognize.
"Come, Little Feng, come and sit."
Seeing Qin Feng arrive, Lan Fang said warmly, signaling for him to sit next to her.
Qin Feng nodded with a smile, but just as he was about to sit down, a cold snort was heard: "This is a family dinner. Banxia, who gave you permission to bring an outsider back?"
Seeing Xu Jingnian speak, Xu Banxia wanted to explain.
However, Lan Fang interrupted: "I am the one who invited him. Is there a problem? In any case, Little Feng will be part of the Xu family from now on."
"Absurd!"
Xu Jingnian slammed the table, pushing the atmosphere to freezing point. He said coldly: "Banxia is already betrothed; you know that well. How could a young brat like him be worthy of Banxia?"
Lan Fang did not back down and retorted angrily: "Then let me repeat it again: I only recognize Qin Feng as my son-in-law. If you dare to let Banxia marry someone else?"
"Then we are through!"
"You!"
Xu Jingnian was so angry his face turned blue. He never expected Lan Fang to openly defy him in front of everyone.
Lan Fang snorted coldly and took the initiative to embrace Qin Feng, saying: "Don't pay attention to him, come sit by me."
Feeling his arm pressed tightly against her full, soft figure, Qin Feng felt a major headache.
It was not hard to notice that Xu Jingnian’s gaze looked as if he wanted to swallow him alive.
The key was, he was being forced into this!
"Father-in-law, calm down. Why argue with Mother-in-law over an orphan from the Qin family? It’s not worth it."
Suddenly, a portly, bald man in his thirties said with a chuckle.
