Chapter Thirty: Could Qin Feng Actually Be the Mysterious Gentleman?
At this point, Qingluan paused.
The atmosphere in the room, already tense, reached a breaking point in an instant. Everyone present felt their hearts race and held their breath, especially Sun Yongkang and his son.
While they had been deeply confused by Qingluan’s attitude toward Qin Feng and her insistence that they apologize to him, they had been entirely confident regarding the partnership with Wolong Bank. After all, they had received inside information—the deal was supposed to be theirs. Once they secured that investment, the Sun family would ascend to become one of Yunhai’s super-families, standing on equal footing with the four great century-old clans. That was what mattered most.
Under this strain, even Xu Jingnian couldn't help but feel nervous. Although the Xu family was a third-rate clan with no standing in Yunhai, his son-in-law, Han Long, had made some behind-the-scenes efforts, and he still held onto a shred of hope.
Of course, the most anxious of all was Song Yuting. The Song Group was currently beset by internal strife and external threats, teetering on the brink of collapse. She was exhausted. Earlier, Qin Feng had taken the liberty of making a wager with her cousin, Song Qing, on her behalf. If she failed to secure this investment, the Song Group would fall into the hands of that good-for-nothing, Song Qing. Her beautiful face turned pale from extreme tension, and her hands were clenched so tightly that her palms were damp with sweat.
The next moment, under the expectant gazes of the crowd, Qingluan’s resolute voice finally fell:
"She is the Song Group’s Ms. Song Yuting!"
As these words were spoken, a spotlight hit, falling directly upon Song Yuting. Instantly, she became the center of attention.
"What?"
A clamor rose from the crowd in response to this result. Everyone was dumbfounded. Countless shocked eyes focused on Song Yuting, unable to comprehend the choice. How could Wolong Bank’s final partner be her? The Song Group was in decline, suffering from suppression by various families led by the Suns. Internally, her cousin, Song Qing, was leading a faction of shareholders in a power struggle, causing chaos. The company was on the verge of bankruptcy. Partnering with a failing firm like that—was this a joke?
Sun Yongkang and his son were struck as if by lightning.
"This..."
"How... how could it be like this?"
They muttered to themselves, utterly devastated. They had been so full of confidence, convinced by their "insider information" that the partnership was a done deal. Yet, at the final moment, it wasn't them?
"Alas, what a pity!" Xu Jingnian sighed in disappointment. "If even a dying camel like the Song family can win the bid, why doesn't our Xu family have such luck?"
Han Long wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, feeling guilty. He hurriedly began to make excuses.
"Dad, I did my best!" he said. "Besides, if even the near-bankrupt Song family can win, I suspect there’s something fishy going on... there might be some dark dealings behind this!"
Xu Banxia paid no attention to her father’s disappointment, instead fixing her gaze on the spotlight. There, bathed in the light, Song Yuting appeared dazzling, the greatest winner of the day. Yet, for Song Yuting, she was stunned, unable to process the reality of it for a long time. It felt surreal.
"Is it... really me?" she finally managed to ask after a long silence.
"Of course," Qingluan nodded, her tone indifferent. "I trust that gentleman’s vision, and I trust my own choice."
As she spoke, her gaze drifted toward Qin Feng. The coldness in her eyes vanished, replaced by a tender, lingering affection. To the crowd, this man always seemed so unremarkable, but only she knew how formidable he had once been—a man to whom the nations of the West and the entire North American continent had bowed.
However, hearing Qingluan’s words, the crowd was shocked. Who? Who could possibly have the influence to advise the boss of Wolong Bank on such a major investment, and more importantly, to have her actually listen?
A second later, everyone followed Qingluan’s gaze. When they saw Qin Feng, they all wore strange expressions. They had thought this because, earlier, the boss had been so respectful and courteous to him in public. But... that couldn't be right! This man was a nobody; they had heard he was just an intern doctor. A person of such low status couldn't possibly have such immense influence. It definitely wasn't him.
As the crowd wondered, Song Yuting, having confirmed the result, could hardly contain her excitement. This immense fortune had truly fallen into her lap, like a dream. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, only to notice that Qin Feng beside her remained calm, with a smile in his eyes, as if he were not surprised by this result at all.
An absurd thought flashed through her mind.
"Did you know about this all along?" Song Yuting asked, half-doubting.
"What else?" Qin Feng chuckled, saying faintly, "I said I wouldn't let you lose, and now I have kept my word."
Song Yuting’s heart trembled at these words. She found it incredible. How on earth did this man manage to convince someone like Qingluan?
"I don't accept this!"
Suddenly, a voice filled with resentment rang out. Sun Yongkang stepped forward, his face flushed with anger and grievance. But when he met Qingluan’s sharp, icy gaze, his tone softened: "Ms. Qing, this isn't right... shouldn't the company we are partnering with be our Sun family?"
"How could you choose the Song family?"
"Their capital chain is broken, and they are not far from bankruptcy. On the other hand, our Sun family has assets, has prestige—aside from the four great families, who in all of Yunhai can compare to us?"
"Besides, we were full of sincerity regarding this cooperation!"
Qingluan didn't even bother to glance at him. "Who said we wanted to cooperate with your Sun family? Since when does it concern you how we at Wolong Bank conduct our business?"
The simple sentence was heavy with pressure. Sun Yongkang’s breath hitched. Refusing to accept failure, he pressed on, "I... I didn't mean that, but I just want to know, who exactly is the person you mentioned?!"
"Choosing them over my Sun family—that person is clearly lying through his teeth!"
"I don't accept it... I must confront him!"
"Hmph." Qingluan let out a cold snort, her eyes filled with deep disdain. "With your status, you think you are worthy of meeting that gentleman?"
"Why am I not worthy?" Sun Yongkang grew desperate, fighting hard. "His one word ruined my family’s partnership. No one would be satisfied with that! I just want an explanation!"
"Or is it... that the man is too ashamed to show his face and doesn't dare to confront me?!"
Sun Yongkang had figured it out: perhaps it was because of one word from that mysterious figure that the boss had changed her mind and abandoned the Sun family. This was clearly that person meddling, which led to the Sun family’s defeat. He could not accept it!
"You're courting death!"
Qingluan’s eyes flashed with anger, and she immediately snapped, "Patriarch Sun, you pride yourself on being able to cover the sky with one hand in Yunhai, but you have no idea that in the eyes of that gentleman, you are nothing but an ant!"
"For your disrespect and slander toward him, I cannot forgive you."
"Someone, come here!"
"Throw this pair of father and son out immediately, so they don't spoil everyone’s mood and dirty the hotel floor!"
As soon as she finished speaking, experts from Wolong Bank appeared. With a single move, they forcefully ejected Sun Yongkang and his son. They fell outside the hotel entrance, disheveled and covered in dust—the biggest clowns of the banquet.
Among them, Sun Zihang fared even worse; his wheelchair was smashed to pieces, and he wailed in pain as if something had been aggravated. Sun Yongkang’s chest ached with fury, and his eyes were practically spitting fire. He had never been so humiliated in his life, being tossed out like a dog just for asking a question! Once he found out who that person was, he would certainly get his revenge!
Back inside, the banquet continued. The guests whispered about what had just happened.
"Hiss!"
"Sun Yongkang is truly foolish!"
"Indeed. Who the boss chooses to partner with is none of his business, and that gentleman must be a person of extraordinary stature—not someone we could easily see."
Though they said this, their curiosity grew even deeper: what did the mysterious "gentleman" look like to make someone like the boss willingly follow his arrangements?
Subsequently, Qingluan walked down from the platform. For the first time, she stood so close to the crowd. Under everyone’s gaze, she carried two glasses of fine red wine and walked gracefully toward Qin Feng. Her eyes moved with fluidity, and her tone was respectful:
"Mr. Qin, the flies have been cleared away."
"They will no longer disturb your enjoyment."
"I shall punish myself with this glass; please, drink as you wish."
