Chapter Three: Song Yu—Sitting at Home, the Trouble Falls from the Sky
Song Yu was still unaware that his actions had sparked wild suspicions in his own brother. He kindly explained, “This doctor is someone I carefully selected, very responsible, and she lives not far from you. If anything happens at night, you can call her directly.”
Ji Han leaned against the sofa, his eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions as he looked at Song Yu. Song Yu was his brother since childhood; their bond was incomparable to that of ordinary friends. The saying “brother’s wife is not to be wronged” weighed heavily on Ji Han’s mind, hoping Song Yu would understand this boundary.
“I’ve accepted the doctor. I didn’t expect you to be so concerned about Miao Ke and me. Truly, I appreciate your effort,” Ji Han said.
Song Yu smiled warmly. “It’s nothing, just a small matter.”
Seeing Song Yu’s smile, Ji Han closed his eyes and took a deep breath, feeling a suffocating tightness in his chest. On one side was his brother, with whom he had grown up; on the other was the woman he deeply loved. It was impossible that Song Yu had fallen for Miao Ke at first sight that night. And why had Song Yu suddenly come over that night? Even if he wanted to send a family doctor, there was no need to personally deliver her.
Could it be that they had some secret contact? Perhaps Song Yu had simply wanted to check on Miao Ke that night. The more Ji Han thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.
Song Yu stayed for a while before leaving. Ji Han went upstairs to confront Miao Ke. What was supposed to be a simple matter of sending a family doctor had instead ignited tension between the two protagonists.
“When exactly did you meet Song Yu? Tell me right now!” Ji Han demanded.
Miao Ke sat on the sofa, tears streaming down her face, shaking her head as she said, “I really don’t know Song Yu. How can I explain it to you?”
Ji Han gave a bitter laugh. “If you don’t know Song Yu, then why did he come to see you when you had a fever? And why did he bring you a family doctor today? He’s my brother! Why are you getting involved with my brother?”
This fierce argument left the household servants trembling with fear. Ever since Ji Han brought his girlfriend home, these two had been quarrelling almost every other day. There wasn’t a single day of true peace at home.
In the end, Ji Han left with a cold face, taking his coat and not returning all night, while Miao Ke cried bitterly on the sofa.
When Su Zhihan received Miao Ke’s call, she was out shopping. Hearing the woman’s sobbing, she instinctively sensed trouble. Sure enough, Miao Ke immediately began complaining about Ji Han, mentioning Song Yu as well.
“I really don’t know Song Yu. Ji Han insists I have some connection with him. I don’t know why he came to see me that night or why he sent me a family doctor today. Ji Han and I had a huge fight over this, and now he’s left,” Miao Ke said, her voice breaking into uncontrollable sobs.
Su Zhihan listened with her mouth agape. Truly, these two lead roles could argue about anything. And Ji Han’s jealousy was so petty—he actually suspected his own brother of having feelings for his girlfriend.
If he had doubts, why not just ask directly instead of jumping to conclusions? She shouldn’t have let Song Yu get involved in this matter. What a mistake!
Su Zhihan carefully explained everything to Miao Ke, including the part about the family doctor. It took nearly two hours before she finally calmed her down.
After hanging up, Su Zhihan felt utterly drained. She was truly the love security guard for the leads, though she desperately wished she weren’t.
Now she was calling the other key figure in this incident, feeling somewhat guilty toward Song Yu. Both problems had stemmed from her involvement, and he had taken the blame.
When Song Yu received Su Zhihan’s call and learned of the situation, he was deeply exasperated.
“I told you, Ji Han’s gaze was off when he saw me. He even made some sarcastic remarks. I didn’t think much of it at the time. I was just being kind, bringing the doctor over, and he thinks badly of me!” Song Yu was so angry he immediately went to meet Su Zhihan.
The two sat together, pondering their next move. What began as a well-meaning act had turned into a disaster.
The problem wasn’t with them but with Ji Han, who was simply too small-minded.
Su Zhihan suggested, “Why don’t we just go to him and explain everything clearly?”
Song Yu agreed, “That’s what I was thinking. The sooner we go, the sooner this gets resolved.”
From beginning to end, Song Yu hadn’t even noticed what Miao Ke looked like; he had no reason to pay extra attention to his brother’s girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Ji Han was at a club, drowning himself in alcohol, surrounded by various women. When Su Zhihan and Song Yu arrived, a woman was practically pressed up against him.
Seeing this, Su Zhihan felt a surge of anger. Such an old-fashioned, Mary Sue-type male lead was utterly infuriating. Having a fight with your girlfriend and then going out to find other women? You deserve heartbreak!
Ji Han, upon seeing Su Zhihan and Song Yu, invited them over to join him. But Su Zhihan’s temper flared instantly.
“Join you? Not a chance! You get into a little fight and immediately go chasing after other women? What’s wrong with you?” she snapped.
“You suspect Song Yu has thoughts about Miao Ke? If you had doubts, why not just ask? Don’t you have a mouth?” Su Zhihan unleashed a torrent of words, with Song Yu nodding in agreement beside her, proving to be a loyal younger brother.
Ji Han was left stunned by her verbal assault.
The women in the room, sensing the tension, quickly slipped away. They sought wealthy men but weren’t oblivious.
Su Zhihan continued, “That night, I called Song Yu to come over. The family doctor was also his recommendation to you.”
“Can you use your brain? Calling me, a veterinarian, to tend to your girlfriend in the middle of the night? Do you not consider me a doctor or your girlfriend a person?”
“Now you two are fighting, and your girlfriend comes to me to complain. Am I your love security guard or what?”
“I introduced the family doctor hoping you wouldn’t bother me anymore whenever your girlfriend fell ill. What bad luck Song Yu has to have a brother like you. And what bad luck I have to have a friend like you.”
As she spoke, her voice grew more sorrowful until she finally blew into her bottle.
She truly felt cursed, having transmigrated into such a world where, aside from Song Yu, no one was normal.
Song Yu tried to hold Su Zhihan back from drinking and said to Ji Han, “Brother, I don’t know what you’re thinking. I understand the rule about not coveting a friend’s wife. If you have any issues, just ask me directly.”
“Honestly, your girlfriend isn’t some irresistible beauty. To me, she’s not even as pretty as Zhihan. You don’t need to worry about me trying to steal her; we like completely different types.”
