Chapter Nine: A First Encounter on the Bus
Since the property transfers for both Xiao Chusheng and Lin Tian were originating from the same Elder Xiao, the documentation required was, to a certain extent, identical. In fact, the paperwork for the villa transfer Xiao Chusheng was handling was even more complex.
"Young man, your paperwork is ready." The young woman handed one of the contracts to Lin Tian with a smile.
"Thank you."
After saying this, Lin Tian stood up to leave, only to be stopped by Xiao Caiyue.
"Boy, you’ve already received your share. You’d best stay in your lane and keep to yourself; don’t go getting any ideas you shouldn't have."
She made her meaning crystal clear, essentially telling him: "The rest belongs to Xiao Chusheng. If you dare to covet it, I will make you pay!"
Lin Tian treated this blatant threat with utter disdain, kept walking, and headed straight out without breaking his stride. He had no such intentions to begin with.
"Sister, if you say things like that, my brother might hold a grudge against me..." Xiao Chusheng looked aggrieved, his voice soft and low, as if he were the one who had done something wrong.
Seeing this, Xiao Caiyue hurried to comfort him. "Don't be afraid, my dear brother. If that savage dares to touch you, your eldest sister will make him pay a price he cannot bear!"
"Hmm~" Hearing this, Xiao Chusheng nodded like a well-behaved kitten and snuggled into her shoulder. "Among all my sisters, you are the best to me, Big Sister!"
The scene left the young woman at the counter stunned. She looked at the two of them hesitantly. "Excuse me, are you here to conduct business?"
"Oh, right, sorry to bother you..."
Meanwhile, Lin Tian had already boarded a bus heading toward his small shack. This was the first time in his life he had ever ridden a bus. Back at the orphanage, he had no source of income and could barely afford to eat, let alone indulge in the luxury of public transport. Now that he had a significant sum of money, he naturally couldn't help but want to experience a bit of a high life.
Sitting on a blue seat, he couldn't help but smile. As his eyes wandered casually, he quickly noticed something.
At some point, the previously empty bus had become packed. Behind a tall, glamorous-looking woman with a high ponytail, a bespectacled man with a predatory look seemed to be leaning forward intentionally, a faint expression of gratification on his face...
Although Lin Tian didn't fully grasp the situation, seeing the woman knit her brows and bite her lip, a surge of righteous indignation rose within him. He stood up and squeezed his way over.
"Is this kid stupid? There are so many people standing already, why did he give up his seat?"
The person standing next to him immediately lunged to occupy the empty seat, mocking him inwardly.
Lin Tian had just reached the side of the man in glasses and was about to use a shoulder strike to shove him away when the bus jolted violently. The man with glasses was pushed to one side by the momentum, and Lin Tian took his place. Reflexively trying to grab a handrail, his right hand reached forward and, by sheer coincidence, landed squarely on the woman's rear.
The next moment, the woman, unable to tolerate it any longer, turned to face him and asked with a cold smile, "How does it feel?"
"It’s okay..." Lin Tian answered, feeling somewhat bewildered.
Hearing this, the woman reached her breaking point and, catching him off guard, kicked out toward his crotch.
Lin Tian was startled by the move, but thanks to his keen perception, he managed to dodge the blow despite the cramped space. His reaction caught the woman's eye, and she said coldly, "No wonder you’re so brazen with your harassment; you’ve got some foundation, I see..."
Realizing the woman had misunderstood him, Lin Tian hurriedly explained, "It wasn't me! I saw... I saw him behind you, and the look on your face... I wanted to stop him, and then..."
"Don't spout nonsense!" the man in glasses argued smoothly in his own defense. "I’ve been standing right here. What proof do you have that it was me? Do you have any witnesses?"
"I..." Lin Tian was rendered speechless, scratching his head in frustration.
Seeing him so distressed that he was practically spinning in circles, the sharp-witted woman started to believe him a little, but lacking evidence, she could only say, "Forget it, I won't blame you."
"Since the lady isn't blaming you, shouldn't you thank her?" The man in glasses tried to kick him while he was down, playing the part of a good Samaritan.
Lin Tian had never been good with words, and at that moment, he felt like a mute eating bitter herbs—unable to voice his grievance.
Fortunately, a kind-hearted man nearby, unable to watch any longer, stepped forward. "I can confirm that this kid was sitting in the blue seat just a moment ago. As for anything else, I didn't see it."
With that, the woman turned her gaze toward the man in glasses, her eyes turning icy.
"Hey... don't listen to his one-sided story, maybe—ow!"
The man in glasses, who had been shivering and offering weak excuses a second ago, now doubled over like a shrimp, feeling the sharp pain of a well-placed kick.
"Everyone, pay attention! This guy is a pervert. He was molesting me just now..."
The woman's voice carried clearly to everyone on the bus.
The man in glasses felt the weight of many eyes on him, and he lowered his head in shame, unable to speak. As soon as the bus reached the next stop, he couldn't bear it any longer and fled the vehicle in a panic. Coincidentally, Lin Tian and the woman also got off at that stop.
"Hey, kid, I'm sorry I misjudged you on the bus earlier," the woman said with an apologetic look. "How about this? There's a small shop over there; let me treat you to some snacks, okay?"
"Snacks..." Lin Tian thought for a moment, then scratched his head shyly. "Then, thank you."
In front of the shop, the woman leaned against the railing, watching with interest as Lin Tian sat on a small stone stool eating potato chips.
"Kid, your reflexes seem pretty good. Where did you train?"
"Huh?" Lin Tian opened his mouth. "I haven't trained. I just saw you about to hit me, so I dodged."
Seeing the clarity in his eyes, which didn't look like he was lying, the woman sighed, "The world is full of wonders. It seems you are one of those rare, naturally gifted martial artists."
"By the way, I don't know your name yet?"
"I... I'm Lin Tian." He looked at the woman and asked, "And what should I call you, Big Sister?"
"What a coincidence! My surname is also Lin. My name is Lin Ruyu." Saying this, Lin Ruyu felt much better. She had run away from home to City B after a fight with her parents, and then suffered harassment on the bus; her mood had been at its absolute lowest.
"Lin Tian, how old are you? Why are you out here alone so close to the New Year? Where are your parents?"
Facing Lin Ruyu's question, Lin Tian replied calmly, "Well... I'm an orphan. I'm almost sixteen."
