Chapter 45: Outwitted
"Hey, when on earth did you manage to tick them off?" Long Yuqing asked, panting heavily as they fled.
Hearing this, Lin Tian glanced back several times and shook his head, "I have no idea! I don't even know who they are!"
Long Yuqing let out an exclamation of disbelief, her head spinning with anxiety as she urged him, "Let's just run away first and figure it out later. Those guys look like bad news."
After the two of them ran continuously for a good while, Long Yuqing finally slowed down, completely out of breath.
"I can't do it anymore. I can barely run."
Seeing this, Lin Tian simply scooped her up and sprinted all the way.
Moving at such an extraordinary speed, Long Yuqing couldn't help but stare in sheer astonishment, blurting out a bewildered question:
"When did you get so fast? And how did your stamina improve so much? I remember last semester you acted like morning exercises were going to kill you."
"Ah, save your breath for now. Just keep your energy."
Determined not to give away his secret, Lin Tian deliberately feigned breathlessness.
True to his expectation, Long Yuqing didn't say anything further.
Meanwhile, the group chasing them ultimately stopped, realizing they could no longer keep up, and slammed their hands down in frustration while cursing.
"Damn it! How can he run so fast? It's like he's cheating!"
"So Boss, are we still chasing them?"
"Forget it, stop chasing!"
The tall, cold-eyed man leading the group pointed toward the east, his gaze sharp with a playful smirk playing at the corner of his lips.
"They must have been heading in this direction earlier. Let's focus our search around here; there's no way we won't find them!"
As soon as he finished speaking, his underlings immediately showered him with flattery.
"As expected of our Boss, so brilliant and witty. Even Zhuge Liang from ancient times would pale in comparison."
"Our Boss is unmatched in both intelligence and courage, a true role model for us all!"
Chatting as they walked, they had no idea that Lin Tian had anticipated their move and deliberately took a detour instead of heading straight home.
"Why are you walking me home first? Isn't your house much closer?" Long Yuqing asked, blinking her wide, curious eyes in confusion.
"Because they're definitely lying in wait on the way to my place right now. It's better to get you home safely first."
With that, Lin Tian scanned his surroundings, released her arm, and let out a sigh of relief, "Alright, you can walk the rest of the short way by yourself."
Suddenly remembering something, Long Yuqing asked, "If what you say is true, what are you going to do? Heaven knows when they'll give up and leave. You can't just stay outside forever!"
"Well... we'll cross that bridge when we get to it."
What Lin Tian actually wanted to say was: "A bunch of guys like them don't even carry weapons. With my current abilities, I couldn't care less about them."
However, to dispel her doubts and worries, he promised her that he would hide out and be completely fine.
"Once you get home, remember to text me that you're safe, and add my phone number on Green Bubble."
"Yeah, I will."
After seeing her off, Lin Tian turned and took an unusual shortcut home.
He had lived here all his life and knew City B better than anyone else.
At this point, the people still looking for him were probably completely clueless.
After carefully locking the door behind him, Lin Tian took out his newly purchased iPhone 13. Once he registered an account, he downloaded the currently popular Green Bubble and Penguin apps.
He first added Long Yuqing's phone number, and then an idea suddenly popped into his head.
"Right, I remember the phone numbers of quite a few classmates. While there's no need to add everyone, I should definitely add a few specific people."
The person he had in mind was Liu Buping, with whom he had a decent relationship.
After pondering for a moment, recalling the events at school earlier that day, a sudden urge for payback welled up inside him.
"Jiang Qingqing..."
Lin Tian muttered through clenched teeth, punching in a string of digits. Upon clicking on the profile and seeing her clover avatar and username, he swiftly hit the add-friend button.
Since he had already filled out his own profile information beforehand, he wasn't worried about arousing suspicion.
Besides, apart from Long Yuqing, probably no one else in the class even knew he had a smartphone, let alone that he could add people on Green Bubble.
A short while later, Jiang Qingqing—whose screen name was *Spring Breeze Ten Miles Without Leaving a Groom*—accepted his friend request and sent a single question mark.
Seeing this, Lin Tian thought for a moment, sent a cute emoji, followed by a message:
"Hello, I apologize for adding you so out of the blue. It's just that I had a dream last night in which I added a great beauty as a friend today. Up until just now, it hadn't come true, but your acceptance made me realize miracles really do happen."
After sending it, he waited with a fluttering heart for her reply.
After quite a while, the other party replied with an emoji that asked, *"Are you out of your mind?"*
Fortunately, she followed up with another text: *"Then how did you know I'm a great beauty?"*
"Because you were the only one I added..."
Meanwhile, in the school teachers' dormitory, Jiang Qingqing stared at his reply, frowning with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
She murmured to herself, "Well, at least he's honest. I'll keep him around and see what happens."
After chatting for a little longer, Lin Tian found an excuse to go offline.
"Why on earth were those guys looking for trouble with me?"
Lin Tian felt somewhat annoyed.
After all, he hadn't really offended anyone this past week.
Aside from Li Quan, with whom he had a prior conflict, nobody else should have known his specific details.
If that was the case, the conflict must have originated at school.
With that thought in mind, he figured the most likely culprit was Zhou Xiaoli.
But would she really be willing to spend money to hire thugs to teach him a lesson?
That part remained a mystery to him.
After finishing dinner that evening, Lin Tian practiced meditation just like he had while recovering in the hospital.
Because every time he finished meditating, his entire body felt wonderfully refreshed, he had naturally turned it into a habit.
The night slipped away in the blink of an eye.
As the eastern sky grew pale and the morning sun rose, the first rays of dawn streamed into the small room.
Lin Tian woke up right on time, feeling his body surging with vigor and boundless energy.
After brushing his teeth, washing his face, and getting dressed, he headed out to buy breakfast.
Since it was Saturday, he didn't have to go to school.
However, once he advanced to the third year of high school next semester, he was going to suffer terribly. They actually only gave half a day off—what absolute nonsense!
Walking for a bit, he stopped in front of an ordinary-looking food stall, watching the vendor fry dough sticks.
