“By the way, big sister, are you a friend of Brother Lin?” Bai Yun asked softly, her face shy and gentle.

“Yes, of course I am. Isn’t that right, kid?” Lin Ruyu smiled faintly, then turned to Lin Tian lying on the bed. “Are you hungry? I’ll go get your favorite potato chips.”

Lin Tian hesitated, then cautiously asked, “Sister Lin, did you come here because you’re unwell too?”

Lin Ruyu’s eyes narrowed slightly, clearly understanding his meaning, and she spoke honestly, “It’s not that I’m very sick. Yesterday, a few friends rescued me from that guy’s villa, and I felt suffocated, so I wanted to come and check on you.”

“Oh, I see.” Lin Tian relaxed and scratched his head awkwardly. “I want to eat potato chips.”

The two exchanged smiles as Lin Ruyu headed out to buy the chips.

“Brother Lin, when did you get a sister?” Bai Yun asked curiously.

“Well… just yesterday,” Lin Tian replied.

Hearing this, Bai Yun whispered worriedly, placing her hand near her mouth, “Do you think there might be a problem?”

“What kind of problem?” Lin Tian shrugged indifferently. “I have no money, no power, no influence—just a half-baked nobody. What could she possibly want from me?”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” Bai Yun nodded vaguely, picked up the remote, and turned on the TV to watch cartoons.

The cartoon playing was her favorite, Peppa Pig. Back at the orphanage, Lin Tian often teased her that she looked just like Peppa.

“Looking at yourself in the mirror again?” Lin Tian glanced at the pink hairdryer hopping around in the mud pit, his tone cool and indifferent.

Bai Yun blushed and remained silent.

Suddenly, Lin Tian’s head throbbed painfully again, but he kept quiet, struggling to suppress the pain. He placed his hands on his crossed legs and instinctively began meditating, channeling his energy.

It must be said, after a while, this effort indeed eased the pain considerably, and a warm sensation arose in his lower abdomen.

At this moment, Lin Tian was unaware that because of his celestial sight, he had already been infused with immortal energy, laying the foundation for cultivation.

---

Downstairs at the hospital, Lin Ruyu impatiently scolded the two men in black beside her, “Do you have to follow me this tightly? Didn’t I tell you both to go handle some matters? Why haven’t you left yet?”

The two men replied respectfully, “We must stay to protect Miss’s safety, in case we encounter another dangerous situation like today.”

“What danger? I’m standing here just fine now!” Lin Ruyu rolled her eyes and urged, “Both of you go, and whatever you do, don’t let the little brother I just acknowledged see you. He’s very clever and will definitely become suspicious. If that happens, I won’t be able to experience the life he talks about.”

No matter how she insisted, the two men remained unmoved. Unable to argue further, she relented but repeatedly warned them not to be seen by Lin Tian.

When Lin Ruyu returned carrying a large bag of snacks, she immediately noticed Lin Tian’s condition but said nothing.

“What’s going on with this kid? Could he be cultivating? Impossible, right? I’ve heard from a Taoist master that having the aptitude to become a martial artist is rare, and possessing the immortal roots and bones needed for cultivation is even rarer—one in ten thousand at best.”

Lin Ruyu was deep in thought when Bai Yun noticed and greeted, “Sister Lin is back.”

“Bai Yun, come eat,” Lin Ruyu invited.

Bai Yun swallowed nervously as she looked at the food but was still hesitant to take any.

“Oh, don’t be so polite,” Lin Ruyu said, handing a bag of chips and a box of pure milk directly into her small hands.

Seizing the opportunity, she began chatting about their life in the orphanage.

Hearing some amusing stories, this usually cold and stern young lady at home couldn’t help but laugh heartily.

Yet when the conversation turned to hardships and struggles, her expression darkened with anger, feeling it was utterly unfair—why did fate have to be so cruel?

Throughout, she deliberately avoided looking at Lin Tian, fearing it might disrupt his meditation.

Bai Yun didn’t think that deeply; she simply nibbled on the chips with innocence and enthusiasm, sharing her dreams for the future.

“When I grow up and have money, I’ll renovate the orphanage so more children can live better lives. No! I should say, I hope there will be no more orphans like us in the world. Every child should be happy, joyful, and have family to accompany them.”

“Have family to accompany them…” Lin Ruyu silently repeated the phrase, unable to suppress a sigh. “That’s not always something good.”

She then asked, “So what are your plans for yourself and little Tian’s future?”

---

Bai Yun blushed deeply and shyly lowered her head, whispering, “I plan to be with Brother Lin…”

The more she spoke, the softer her voice became, almost inaudible.

Though Lin Ruyu didn’t catch the words, she understood the meaning from Bai Yun’s lovestruck expression and felt a pang of tenderness. Teasing gently, she said, “Then you must be careful. I think Tian is going to be someone extraordinary. Watch out that others don’t…”

She trailed off, smiling quietly.

Unbeknownst to her, Bai Yun took those words deeply to heart, her gaze darting anxiously toward the meditating Lin Tian.

“In just over half a month, school starts. I remember Brother Lin said there are many pretty girls at his school. Could he already have someone he likes?” Bai Yun wondered aloud.

Since Bai Yun attended middle school and Lin Tian went to high school—even though part of the same institution—they had little chance to interact.

“Daydreaming?” Lin Ruyu patted her shoulder to bring her back to reality.

Thus, the evening passed quietly.

Lin Tian meditated cross-legged all night. When it was time to sleep, Bai Yun wanted to help him lie down, but Lin Ruyu stopped her.

“Brother Lin is cultivating… resting. Disturbing him would only burden him.”

Frightened, Bai Yun dared not move rashly.

It wasn’t until noon the next day that Lin Tian finally awoke, slowly opening his eyes.

“Brother Lin, why did you sleep sitting up last night?” Bai Yun asked, sitting by his bedside, her small face full of concern.

Seeing this, Lin Tian instinctively reached out to gently stroke her cheek and said affectionately, “Because having you by my side makes me feel safe. It doesn’t matter how I sleep.”

Bai Yun shyly smiled, lowering her head to lean on Lin Tian’s shoulder like a kitten cuddling close.

This tender moment was just witnessed by Lin Ruyu as she returned from buying lunch.
