Chapter Thirteen: Just As It Appeared in His Eyes Before!
The moment Lin Tian opened his eyes, he found himself lying in an unfamiliar room. As he glanced around, he noticed someone lying beside the white bed.
“Bai Yun…” Lin Tian called out, but his throat was hoarse. A sharp pain pulsed intermittently from his forehead, compelling him to instinctively press his hand against it.
What on earth had happened?
He wanted to ask, but such an absurd situation left him unsure of whom to question.
Bai Yun, still groggy, lifted her head. Seeing Lin Tian awake and quietly resting on the hospital bed, the exhaustion that had weighed down her body and spirit instantly gave way to renewed vitality. Her eyes brimmed with concern.
“Brother Lin, you were unconscious for two days. You nearly scared me to death. How are you feeling now?”
“I’m fine. By the way, how are the director and everyone else? What happened to the orphanage?” Lin Tian couldn’t help but ask several questions.
What he didn’t expect was the sorrow that clouded Bai Yun’s face. Tears welled up as she said, “The children are safe, but the director sacrificed himself fighting the villains. More than half of the orphanage was burned down.”
Hearing such devastating news, like a bolt from the blue, Lin Tian felt all his strength drain away. A sharp pain gripped his chest. His lips, dry and pale, parted, but no words escaped.
He didn’t know why, but he felt an overwhelming urge to cry—yet no tears came, not even a sound of grief.
The director was truly gone, just as he had seen earlier in his visions.
What happened to the police and the criminals afterward?
He asked in a low voice. Bai Yun wept even more bitterly, her tone desolate. “According to the police, they took a hostage by the roadside and escaped in a vehicle.”
Lin Tian’s heart sank further.
Because what Bai Yun said matched what he had witnessed in the subsequent scenes in his mind.
In an instant, his face was painted with regret, anger, helplessness, and self-blame.
“Did the police manage to track down those criminals and bring them to justice?” he inquired.
“No,” Bai Yun said, her face darkening. She clearly disapproved but seemed fearful to voice it outright.
Just then, a door creaked open. A middle-aged man, well-dressed in a suit and slightly stout, stepped in.
He approached with concern. “Little Lin, you’re awake! Feeling better? I was worried you might have been frightened. But rest assured, with me here, nothing like this will ever happen again!”
Lin Tian eyed him warily. “May I ask who you are?”
“I’m Zhou Papi, the new director of the orphanage,” the man introduced himself.
Lin Tian glanced at Bai Yun. When she nodded, he replied politely, “Hello, Director Zhou.”
“Good, good…” Zhou Papi’s expression was amiable as he looked at Lin Tian with righteous fervor. “I’m well-informed about the orphanage’s situation. From now on, with me here, none of you will suffer from cold or hunger. I will treat you all as my own flesh and blood!”
Admittedly, his words had some effect. Bai Yun wiped away her tears, gratitude shining in her eyes. “Thank you, Director…”
“Please don’t cry, child. The director won’t let you shed tears anymore.”
As he spoke, Zhou Papi patted Bai Yun’s shoulder, a faint, almost imperceptible glimmer flickering in his eyes.
But Lin Tian, gifted with the Heavenly Eye, saw everything clearly and couldn’t help but grow more cautious of this new director.
“Director Zhou’s gaze at Bai Yun seems different from Director Li’s. Is this really how he treats his own daughter?”
Director Li was the previous head who had died protecting the children.
Lin Tian understood everything perfectly. Then he heard Zhou Papi continue, “As arranged, I’ve set up large tents near the orphanage for the children. Food, water, clothing, and medicine are all prepared—enough to last for a while until the orphanage is rebuilt.”
Zhou Papi said little more before taking his leave.
Before departing, he cast a meaningful look at Bai Yun’s budding figure and, adopting a paternal tone, said, “Bai Yun, during this time, you’ll have to work hard taking care of Brother Lin.”
“Yes, I will take good care of Brother Lin,” Bai Yun nodded gently in reply.
Once he left, she turned to Lin Tian and spoke favorably of Zhou Papi. “Brother Lin, I think Director Zhou is quite kind to us.”
“Let’s hope so,” Lin Tian said, looking up at the ceiling in silence.
Later that evening, a nurse came to examine him and repeated the usual advice—take care of yourself, avoid certain foods, take your medicine on time…
Lin Tian found it all rather tiresome.
He was certain he had no illness, so why did his emotions suddenly spiral out of control, his mind feeling as if it might explode?
He couldn’t fathom it.
“Brother Lin, what would you like to eat? I’ll go buy it,” Bai Yun offered.
“Hmm, something light, please. More rice, not too much oil or chili. Come back soon. I’m hungry,” Lin Tian said.
Watching Bai Yun leave, he slowly got out of bed. His head no longer throbbed as painfully as before.
He paced around the bed, bored, and decided to turn on the large television mounted in the ward to pass the time.
As he flipped through channels, a particular scene caught his attention.
A woman on the screen was walking through a market, occasionally commenting on the surroundings. She stopped at a stall displaying many oddly shaped stones.
“Now, I’ll show all the viewers at home how to find a precious jade among countless stones!”
As she bent down to examine them, Lin Tian found himself intrigued.
“This seems quite interesting…”
He suddenly exclaimed, “How come I can see things inside those stones?”
He quickly realized it was probably linked to his Heavenly Eye.
The woman carefully selected a stone about four inches in size, holding it up to the camera with enthusiasm.
“I have a hunch this stone contains something valuable, maybe even a high-quality jade,” she said.
“Dear viewers at home, what do you think? Is there something inside? What grade could it be? Come along with me and let’s find out.”
After speaking, the camera zoomed out to show her swaying her slender waist gracefully as she moved aside.
Soon, she stopped before a stone-cutting and appraisal device, greeting the stall owner.
After explaining her purpose, the owner nodded toward the camera. “Well then, let’s see if this girl really has what it takes to make a profit.”
