Lu Xingchen nodded slightly. “Alright, Dad, you better be ready to catch this!”
Lu Chaoyang spoke in a deep voice, “Use your full strength. Don’t hold back. You’re still not strong enough to hurt me.”
Lu Xingchen clenched his right fist and suddenly struck Lu Chaoyang with a powerful punch.
Lu Chaoyang took the hit squarely on his chest, not even swaying an inch.
Lu Xingchen was shocked.
No wonder he was a grand martial master; his full-strength blow couldn’t break through his defense.
Lu Chaoyang nodded slightly, a smile appearing on his face. “Not bad. You do have the strength of a martial master. Seems like you have great talent, boy!”
Lu Xingchen grinned. “All thanks to you, Dad.”
“Alright, go back and rest. I’ll assign you other tasks tomorrow.”
“As you command!”
Lu Xingchen and Lin Wanqing left the council chamber.
Once they were out of earshot, Lu Chaoyang jumped up and down on the ground excitedly.
“Hahaha! My son has finally come into his own!”
“In just a few months, he went from an ordinary person to a two-star martial master. Truly a prodigy!”
“The power behind that punch was on par with a five-star martial master!”
“Now who dares say the Lu family has no successors?”
Lu Xingchen and Lin Wanqing walked back toward their rooms.
Lin Wanqing’s lips curved dangerously. “Lu Xingchen, you’ve been hiding your strength quite well!”
Lu Xingchen smiled awkwardly. “Wanqing, don’t be angry. I just want to make a name for myself on my own, to make Dad proud. I didn’t mean to play tricks on you.”
Lin Wanqing chuckled softly. “I guessed as much. But you performed so well this time—why didn’t the general reward you? He didn’t look happy at all.”
“That’s how Dad is. He always puts on a tough front around me, but inside he’s bursting with joy.”
“Oh, so that’s it.”
Lu Xingchen took out the low-grade mysterious spirit sword from his storage ring and handed it to Lin Wanqing.
“Now that the battle’s over, this sword should be returned to you.”
Lin Wanqing paused slightly, then spoke gently, “It suits you very well. It can only reach its full potential in your hands, so I’ll give it to you.”
Hearing this, Lu Xingchen felt a bit pleased.
He had indeed found the sword very handy; having it for himself was perfect.
“We’re comrades who’d die for each other; I won’t refuse. By the way, what’s the sword’s name?”
“The Crimson Sun Sword. It’s a treasured heirloom of my family.”
Lu Xingchen smiled. “Good name! Truly, the sword lives up to it—sharp and domineering.”
What Lin Wanqing didn’t say was that the Crimson Sun Sword was paired with her own Frost Moon Sword.
According to the Lin family’s tradition, if she found someone worthy of lifelong trust, she would give the Crimson Sun Sword as a token of their bond.
At the time, the situation was urgent, and she had no time to dwell on traditions, so she just threw the Crimson Sun Sword to him.
As for now, she had no intention of taking it back.

Early the next morning, Lu Xingchen and Lin Wanqing arrived at the council chamber.
“Dad, what should we do next?”
Lu Chaoyang sipped his tea calmly and said, “It’s time for you to leave.”
Lu Xingchen was baffled.
“Leave? But the war isn’t over yet!”
“The war is already over. After the battle at Zigui City, the Fengming Kingdom lost over twenty thousand elite troops and suffered a devastating blow. They no longer have the strength to continue fighting us.”
“We’ve signed a ceasefire agreement. For at least the next five years, Fengming Kingdom won’t recover its strength, so there’s no need to worry about further war.”
Lu Xingchen’s heart leapt with joy.
Who would want to fight if given a choice?
But he also felt a bit anxious.
If he couldn’t go into battle anymore, where would he gain experience?
“So, Dad, what should I do now? Guard the border with you?”
Lu Chaoyang gave him a hard smack on the head.
“You have such talent; it would be a waste to keep you at the border. Tomorrow, you and Lin Wanqing will go to Lingxiao Sect to cultivate!”
“If only our Dayan Kingdom had one more grand martial master, Fengming Kingdom wouldn’t be so arrogant.”
Lingxiao Sect is located in the south of Dayan Kingdom, not far away—just a day’s journey.
On the Tianyuan Continent, states and sects maintain a balance of power.
States are ranked as low, medium, high, and supreme levels, while sects range from grade one to nine.
Dayan Kingdom is just a low-level state on the edge of Qingzhou, while Lingxiao Sect is a grade-three sect.
Low-level states nearby all send suitable talents to Lingxiao Sect for cultivation.
Fengming Kingdom does the same.
Hearing this, Lu Xingchen’s heart stirred slightly.
Going to Lingxiao Sect might be a good choice.
Not only could he access more resources, but he might also find chances to gain experience points.
After all, such a large sect surely has many affairs to handle.
Lu Xingchen nodded firmly. “Alright, we’ll set off tomorrow!”
Lu Chaoyang continued, “Your fiancée, Xiao Yue, has already gone to Lingxiao Sect ahead of you. You can contact her for some help. Also, take good care of Wanqing, understand?”

Lu Xingchen sneered inwardly.
Help from her?
If Xiao Yue doesn’t try to get rid of me, that’s already lucky.
Lingxiao Sect is indeed a good opportunity. Let’s see if I can manage to get rid of Xiao Yue there.
But Lu Xingchen still didn’t want to tell his father about this.
His father had enough hardships guarding the Dayan Kingdom’s gates; he didn’t want to add more trouble.
“Alright, I’ll take good care of Miss Wanqing!”
In the following time, Lu Xingchen and his father spent a peaceful and leisurely day.
For once, his father didn’t scold him but treated him as an equal, speaking with respect and admiration.
Early the next morning, Lu Xingchen set out with Lin Wanqing for Lingxiao Sect.
On the road, Lin Wanqing asked a troubling question.
“Dazhuang, do you have a good relationship with Her Highness the Princess?”
Lu Xingchen chuckled lightly. “Of course, very good—so good that we love and hate each other.”
“Ah? Is that so?”
Lin Wanqing’s face fell, feeling a bit hurt.
“Yes, love and hate. She wants to kill me, and I want to kill her.”
Lin Wanqing was shocked upon hearing this.
“What? She’s your fiancée! Surely you two haven’t reached that state?”
Lu Xingchen immediately told Lin Wanqing about the broken engagement and assassination attempts.
Only then did Lin Wanqing understand.
“Never thought the princess of Dayan Kingdom would be like this! Dazhuang, if you ever need anything from me, just say the word. Even if she is a princess, I won’t go easy on her!”
“Thank you so much!”
Lu Xingchen felt a warmth in his heart.
After a day and a night of travel, the two finally arrived at the southernmost city of Dayan Kingdom: Dahuang City.
As soon as they stepped onto the streets of Dahuang City, they heard the news of Lingxiao Sect recruiting new disciples.
Lu Xingchen took Lin Wanqing to the enrollment office to register.
The elders of Lingxiao Sect announced they would take them to Lingxiao Sect in three days for the entrance examination.
Indeed, to enter Lingxiao Sect, one must pass an exam.
No matter if you are a princess or a noble heir of any country, you must be tested to join Lingxiao Sect.
