Jiang Zhiyue silently moved her phone a little farther away. “Speak properly.”
Through their conversation, she finally understood the whole sequence of events.
It turned out that after Pei Heng went to the hospital for a checkup and found no serious issues, he was still worried about the talisman and went straight home to ask his mother about it.
Only then did he discover that his normally healthy mother had suddenly collapsed at home.
The family doctor examined her for a long time but could not determine the cause. Naturally, Pei Heng suspected something abnormal and urgently contacted Jiang Zhiyue.
“Point the camera at your mother. Let me take a look.”
“Okay.”
On the screen, Pei Heng aimed the camera at his mother’s face.
A middle-aged woman with a refined demeanor, but her normally rosy and fair complexion was now strangely bruised and darkened.
“So, fairy sister?”
A spirit’s soul wandering outside the body is not particularly difficult to handle, as long as the soul can be called back in time.
Jiang Zhiyue gave him a reassuring look through the screen:
“Don’t worry, I’ll be there soon. Before I arrive, find an oil lamp—any kind will do—and drip a few tears of yours into the lamp oil. Once done, light the lamp and place it on the bedside table.”
“Tears? Ah, what if I can’t cry? Which man can cry just like that?”
Jiang Zhiyue glanced at the screen with disdain:
“Is that something I should worry about? If you can’t cry, just think over all the sad things in your life a few more times.
At worst, imagine your secret crush’s true love bearing three sons to your mortal enemy, and in the end, you become their godfather.”
Pei Heng looked seriously at Jiang Zhiyue’s face on the screen, then quickly averted his gaze:
“Thanks, that’s inspiring. I’m going to cry now!”
He hurriedly ended the video call—apparently to prepare.
An ordinary oil lamp is not as effective as a professional soul-guide lamp, but for now, it would have to do.
Tears from a close relative resonate with the wandering soul, and a loved one’s call can guide the soul back home.
Thinking further, she sent Pei Heng a message asking him to prepare a few more things.
Thanks to the driver’s superb skills, Jiang Zhiyue arrived at the Pei residence within a dozen minutes.

Unfortunately, just as she reached the Pei family gate, she saw someone familiar stepping out of another luxury car.
It was her nominal third elder brother, Jiang Linchuan, a prodigious doctor in China.
Clearly, Jiang Linchuan spotted her at once.
“Zhiyue, you’re supposed to be resting at home. What are you doing here?”
Jiang Zhiyue curled her lips. “Do I owe you an explanation for what I’m doing here? Didn’t Madam Jiang tell me I’ve left your Jiang family and am no longer related to you all?”
Jiang Linchuan looked somewhat helpless.
“Did Jiang Chen bother you again? He’s impulsive. He and Yan Yan are about the same age and have been close since childhood. If he did something wrong, I apologize on his behalf.
He’s just afraid that if you come back, you’ll take away the affection that originally belonged to Yan Yan, so he targets you everywhere. Give him some time; one day he’ll understand you’re our sister too.”
Jiang Zhiyue laughed bitterly. “He’s younger than me? How much younger can he be? Then why isn’t he my little brother?”
“Besides, listen to what you’re saying. What do you mean by ‘affection originally belonging to Yan Yan’?
So, I’m the intruder, the extra one? I was supposed to be a homeless orphan on the streets all along?”
Jiang Linchuan was a little troubled and didn’t want to argue now:
“That’s not what I meant. Yan Yan has lived with us for over ten years; there must be feelings there.”
“Oh right, right. She’s been spoiled by you all for over a decade, so you can’t bear to see her suffer the slightest bit. Meanwhile, I’ve drifted and starved for more than ten years, so I should just learn to get used to it, right?”
Jiang Linchuan usually said little, but seeing Jiang Zhiyue so sharp-tongued for the first time, he found himself at a loss for words.
He helplessly adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and, unusually indulgent, said:
“Alright, Zhiyue, stop making trouble. I know you’ve suffered these years. You should behave and go back now. I’ll bring your favorite little cake tonight. Be good. I still have work now; go back on your own first.”
Jiang Zhiyue opened her mouth, hating herself for being such a softie.
She knew that no matter how well her third brother promised, if Jiang Qingyan pouted, any gift originally meant for her would end up with the other girl.
Still, at times, she truly felt a shameful craving for the feeling of having family.
But a sugar daddy is a sugar daddy; she should never have entertained unrealistic hopes from the start.
Now, she thought of it as if she had resigned. Only by thinking this way could she ease the ache in her heart.
“This isn’t your home. You don’t have the right to tell me to leave.”
Jiang Linchuan grew increasingly impatient:
“Stop fooling around. Do you know where this place is? I really have work now and no time to accompany you. If you have something to say, talk later. That’s final.”

After speaking, he turned to the butler beside him: “Sorry for the delay. This is my sister. Please arrange a resting place for her. After seeing Madam Pei, I’ll take her away.”
Meanwhile, the servant who had been standing next to Jiang Zhiyue was nearly jumping with anxiety. He grabbed her arm with a forced smile:
“Really sorry, Dr. Jiang. Isn’t it possible that Miss Jiang is a guest invited by the Pei family and has nothing to do with you?
If there’s nothing else, I’ll take Miss Jiang inside first. Our young master is waiting. Perhaps you can catch up with her later?”
Without waiting for Jiang Linchuan’s response, he pulled Jiang Zhiyue and smoothly led her up to the second floor of the villa.
Jiang Zhiyue silently gave this servant a mental thumbs-up—what a good person!
Jiang Linchuan followed behind with a stern expression, watching Jiang Zhiyue’s back with a meaningful look.
Little did he know when his usually reclusive sister had come to know this equally elusive young master of the Pei family?
A young girl coming to someone else’s home without any elders accompanying her—it seemed Yan Yan was right; before officially acknowledging her to the outside world, she still needed to teach her some manners.
Just as they reached the second floor, Pei Heng suddenly appeared from somewhere, excitedly grabbing Jiang Zhiyue’s hand.
“Fairy sister, you’ve finally arrived! I was so worried! Come with me quickly.”
Seeing their interaction, Jiang Linchuan frowned. “Pei young master, where are you taking my sister?”
Pei Heng was stunned, glanced at Jiang Linchuan, then back at Jiang Zhiyue.
Jiang Zhiyue discontentedly corrected: “Dr. Jiang, don’t speak nonsense. I think I made myself clear earlier—I am not your sister and never will be.”
“Zhiyue, don’t throw a childish tantrum.”
Pei Heng stepped in front of Jiang Zhiyue. “You’re that genius doctor Jiang Linchuan my father mentioned?”
Jiang Linchuan nodded. “Exactly. I also want to ask, Pei young master, how do you know my sister? Do you realize what people would say if a young girl came to your house alone?”
“Oh, Dr. Jiang, I think you’re mistaken. Fairy sister just said she’s not related to you, so don’t claim her as your sister here. Besides, I invited her today to treat my mother’s illness.”
Pei Heng spoke seriously and confidently.
Hearing this, Jiang Linchuan felt an even greater headache.
Treat illness?
His sister was always spouting superstitious nonsense; how could she possibly treat any illness?
