Volume 1, Chapter 58: Could Her Pregnancy Be Fake?
Jiang Yun杪 did not expect to accidentally catch her junior schoolmate in his most awkward moment.
Watching Zhou Zhiyi walk away, Jiang Yun杪 made a phone call, "Organize the latest cooperation proposals and send them to me as soon as possible."
Immediately afterwards, she got into Lu Shenshen's car and left the hospital with them.
At the same time, a figure emerged from the deep shadows. A delicate face wore a wicked smile, and even the heavy night could not conceal the twisted glee on her features.
She swiped her phone, looking at the few photos she had just taken, the corners of her eyes and brows lifting slightly, inadvertently exuding a hint of sinister malice.
She had always suspected that Jiang Yun杪 was hiding something.
Even though Jiang Yun杪 was wearing a loose down jacket, her overall posture was completely different from how she had looked at home that morning.
When she saw Jiang Yun杪 in the morning, her heavily pregnant belly completely filled out the clothes. But in the photos, the clothes hung loosely on her body.
Chen Niake could not help but recall the time she went to the postpartum care center to find Du Junshan, when she had also seen that Jiang Yun杪 had a flat stomach. Back then, she thought she was just seeing things, but looking back now, what she saw was the truth.
So, Jiang Yun杪 was faking her pregnancy?!
Reaching this conclusion, Chen Niake was stunned!
This was simply too audacious, and she had managed to pull the wool over everyone's eyes and stay safe for so long.
Everyone had been completely played by her.
But why would Jiang Yun杪 do such a thing?
"Could it be that her body was damaged and she has difficulty conceiving, so she wanted a surrogate and orchestrated this whole act herself?" The moment Chen Niake returned home, she told Chen's mother about this, and Chen's mother helped her analyze it.
Chen Niake nodded thoughtfully, "What you're saying makes some sense. I heard A-Yi say that three years ago, Jiang Yun杪 was pregnant with a child, which is why A-Yi married her and got the marriage certificate. But later, because Jiang Yun杪 worked too hard, she lost the child. Could it be that the miscarriage ruined her foundation?"
The more Chen Mother thought about it, the more possible it seemed, "Then what do you plan to do next?"
Chen Niake pondered for a long time, "If that's really the case, then Jiang Yun杪 shouldn't be asking for a divorce."
She irritably scratched her head, temporarily unable to figure out Jiang Yun杪's game plan.
"The only explanation is that her asking for divorce is just playing hard to get?" Chen Niake carefully analyzed.
Chen Mother: "What you're saying makes sense. Fortunately, you and Duan Yixiao are back together now, and you've firmly captured his heart."
Chen Niake was not optimistic, however, "But my relationship with him is still unseeable after all. Duan Yixiao doesn't agree to divorce Jiang Yun杪, and hasn't signed the Divorce Agreement yet."
A trace of gloom flashed across Chen Mother's hazy eyes, "That's because that dead girl Jiang Yun杪 is asking for too much! She wants to split half the property; how can we easily agree to that? She thinks she can just grab money by getting a divorce!"
Light rippled in Chen Niake's eyes, brimming with malice, "It seems I need to plan carefully and expose Jiang Yun杪's despicable behavior."
Chen Mother: "It's best to gather solid evidence so she has no chance of making a comeback!"
Since Zhou Wenhua was going to stay at the Duan family residence after Chinese New Year's Eve, it would be best to expose Jiang Yun杪 before then.
She repeatedly flipped through the few photos on her phone, dark light shifting in her deep, gloomy eyes, her lowered eyelashes casting a heavy shadow underneath, fully displaying a sinister yet alluring charm.
After pondering for a long time, she dialed a phone call, "Auntie, is Jiang Yun杪 back yet?"
Zhou Wenhua's tone was full of disgust, "She only just came back, claiming she went for a prenatal checkup, but didn't return until the middle of the night. When I called her earlier, she only told me she went out for dinner with friends. Running around everywhere with a big belly, it's simply outrageous. She even hung up on me and blocked my number. I really don't know what kind of bad karma I accumulated in my past life to end up with such a daughter-in-law."
Her ceaseless complaining made Chen Niake a bit impatient, but she could only endure and listen until the end.
A look of malice and calculation filled Chen Niake's eyes. Once Zhou Wenhua finished speaking, she feigned surprise and began, "She said she was having dinner with friends? But I clearly saw her at the hospital with a ma—" halfway through, she abruptly stopped herself.
"What did you say? What hospital, who with a man?" Zhou Wenhua had already conjured up numerous scenarios in her mind, and she eagerly pursued the question.
"No... nothing. Maybe I saw wrong." Chen Niake deliberately protested too much.
"What on earth is going on? Just tell me straight, don't leave me hanging in anxiety." The more Chen Niake tried to gloss things over, the more anxious Zhou Wenhua became to know the inside story.
Chen Niake mumbled vaguely for a bit longer before reluctantly saying, "Well... Auntie, you know I opened an online brand store! Someone placed an order just now, so I made a trip myself to deliver it to the hospital. When I came out, I saw Jiang Yun杪... or maybe it wasn't her; after all, it was nighttime, the lighting wasn't very good, and I might have mistaken her for someone else."
Zhou Wenhua's tone turned gloomy, "It doesn't matter, just tell me what you saw, and I'll judge for myself."
Chen Niake twitched the corner of her mouth into a smirk and continued, "I saw someone who looked a lot like Jiang Yun杪 talking to a man."
"What did they say?" Zhou Wenhua's every word was chilling.
"The wind was very strong at the time, and I was a bit far away, so I didn't hear the specifics clearly." In reality, she had heard it; it seemed Jiang Yun杪 had run into a junior schoolmate by chance. But a mix of truth and falsehood was the only way to give Zhou Wenhua room for endless imagination.
"What on earth would she be doing at the hospital with a man in the middle of the night?"
In truth, once suspicion arises, the crime is already established.
This was the exact effect Chen Niake wanted.
She replied softly and innocently, "I wouldn't know about that. Maybe I really did see wrong. Although that person looked like Jiang Yun杪, she wasn't pregnant." She continued laying out her future moves.
"Not pregnant?" Zhou Wenhua let out a sigh of relief, "Then you probably really did see wrong. Jiang Yun杪 is over eight months pregnant; you can tell at a glance."
"Exactly! It probably wasn't her." Chen Niake deliberately added a line to cover for herself.
The next day, Chen Niake came to visit Zhou Wenhua again, bringing pastries.
"It's all my fault for babbling nonsense yesterday and worrying you, Auntie. So today I specifically waited in line to buy some pastries to make amends. Please don't take to heart what I said yesterday." Chen Niake said with a radiant smile, sitting down intimately beside Zhou Wenhua.
In truth, the words she spoke clearly guided Zhou Wenhua to replay everything said yesterday all over again.
"It's fine, I wouldn't blame you. If you discover something like this in the future, you must still tell me right away." Zhou Wenhua patted her hand, increasingly feeling that Chen Niake was gentle, considerate, and understanding.
After all, with her injured leg keeping her confined here, Chen Niake was the only one who came to visit her every few days to keep her company and chase away the boredom. It seemed she really must love A-Yi very much.
Especially now, the more Zhou Wenhua looked at Jiang Yun杪, the more displeasing she found her, and the more she looked at Chen Niake, the better everything seemed.
Chen Niake carefully glanced around her surroundings, then cast a look toward the upper floor, and asked as if casually, "Auntie, is Yun杪 at home?"
